Ho-Chunk Nation members to share their culture

.
Members of the Ho-Chunk Nation will share the arts of beading and basketweaving, along with samples of the popular American Indian fry bread, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the La Crosse Welcome Center, just off Interstate 90 at the rest area on French Island.

Decorative beading and basketweaving are two ancient skills of the Ho-Chunk, also known as “The People of the Big Voice or Sacred Language.” Fry bread is a flat dough fried or deep-fried in oil, which often is served both at home and at gatherings such as pow-wows and state fairs by American Indian tribes across the nation.
Travelers can find more information on Wisconsin’s Indian tribes at www.travelwisconsin.com or www.natow.org.
