Dorothy was born on Oct. 2, 1929, to Harvey and Vera (Burchell) Manley in the township of Whitestown, Wis. On June 5, 1951, Dorothy was united in holy matrimony to Ivan Hutchison at United Methodist Church in Norwalk, Wis. Dorothy worked as a teacher and started her teaching career in Oil City, Wis., in a one-room schoolhouse. Here she was the official teacher, cook, fire starter and janitor. Later she worked as a preschool teacher in the Ontario School District. After Dorothy retired from teaching, she was the most sought-after cook in Vernon and Monroe counties in Wisconsin. She loved to cook, and people traveled near and far to taste her delicacies.
When Dorothy was not working, she treasured time spent in her gardens, watching birds, traveling with Ivan and trying her luck at the local casino’s slot machines. Dorothy cherished moments with her family most of all.
She was a loving wife, mom and grandma who will be missed by her husband of 57 years, Ivan; her children, Cheryl (Eirik) Eness of Ontario, Larry (Rita) Hutchison of Cashton, and Sharon (Steve) Gorshe of Sparta, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Paul and Alanna Eness, Jenni (Matt) Hardie, Ryan Hutchison, Candace, Eric, Leigh Hurtz, Danen Hemmersbach, Ashlee and Emilee Gorshe; a sister-in-law, Fern Williams of Tomah, Wis.; along with many other relatives and friends.

Richard E. Wieman
Richard E. Wieman of La Crosse went to join his Mom, Dad, brother and sister in heaven after a long battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at the age of 68. He was proud to serve his country from 1958 to 1963 as a Navy crash crew firefighter. He was a true patriot and supported all the branches of the service and the soldiers who served in them.
In his younger years, Rich was a concrete contractor and enjoyed the hard work and challenge of running his own business. He was an excellent walleye fisherman and had the days numbered as to when the ice would leave the Mississippi so that he could take “putter,” his boat, out fishing. He loved deer hunting with his buddies and would start preparing in September. Camping in the summer was a great time until he decided that a hotel and a hot shower felt a little better than a sleeping bag in a tent.
Later, Rich enjoyed sitting in his yard, tending to his flowers, and visiting with his neighbors. He also enjoyed watching the finches and hummingbirds. It was always a competition to see who could spot the first hummingbird of the season. He became quite a “guru” at canning his vegetables, (especially salsa and sweet pickles) and making his wine. He really got a kick out playing poker with the guys, especially when he won the dollar bet.
Rich is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; his daughters, Wendy and Wanda and her husband, Tom Blenka; sons, “Nurse” Brian, Brad and his wife, Beth, and Brent and his wife, Katie; sister and pal, Judy Pepple and her husband, Jack; sister-in-law, MaryEllen Wieman; brothers-in-law, Don and Nancy Hoesley, Harry and Carol Hoesley and Frank and Tanya Hoesley; mother-in-law, Irene Hoesley; and many wonderful nieces and nephews who brightened his day.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl; his father, LeRoy; his brother, Leroy; his sister, Patty; and his nephews, Terry Wieman and Paul Clair.
There was never a dull moment when Rich was around. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but remembered with smiles and laughter. As was his wish, his grandchildren will be his pallbearers.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse, with the Rev. Todd Clair officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Memorial Coulee Park Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Rich’s family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Ted Thompson, who was our rock and support throughout his illness. Also to his wife, Mrs. Thompson, for sharing him with us; the hospice program of Gundersen Lutheran, and R.N. Joan who was there when we needed her.
