" @myturn 1132 post
That's better! I agree that we are doing pretty well w/o the best and brightest. But what if... we actually had the best and brightest teaching the students at UWL? Just think of where we could possibly be then.
So what if there were 60 applicants for Gow's job? That sounds like a positive thing to me. You should be proud that job attracted so many applicants.
Also, what's with the raffling a private box? That is in no way relative to this article.
Stay focused. "

" it's called brain drain you dolts! most kids that go to UWL aren't from here! and the ones that are leave afterwards because of the economic situation here. no REAL jobs. Salary,benefits,401K,etc... you wait and see what happens here in the next 15 years when all the old money retires or dies! nice little dried up Pennsylvania steel town! "
Myturn wrote on Aug 22, 2008 11:32 AM:
" Specific? Seems we are not doing so bad considering we have not been able to attract the best and brightest to teach our UW Students because of low pay. While they live in that 1040 ranch house that cost them $140k here, and over $300k in most other markets. At the same time there were 60 plus applicants for Gow's job? "

" Here is another post enuffalready- How come when we compare local public school costs to Luther and Aquinas, the latter supposedly excel because of the makeup of the students themselves. But Gow this AM on WIZM attributes UWL scholastic ranking on faculty "giving their all"? Of course not on the makeup and quality of the Midwest and the citizens we have. Although their is plenty of other data that back up our quality of life, and content of our residents in many other comparison ways. BTW, do they have a Sociology Department over there???? I suggest you visit it, with a list of questions. "
Myturn wrote on Aug 22, 2008 8:12 AM:
" It's 'kinda' tough to relate on the Northside with the new 'holding facility', section eight housing, and police screw driver stabbings that we need to pay more to retain and hire the best that seem to be doing a very good job with their already bloated pay and benefit level compared to other campuses. Hey enuffalready, I answered you, maybe not the answer you wanted, but the point is there to 'decipher'. Now you tell me, how about raffling only 'one' of those new private viewing boxes at the stadium every game to someone from the student enrollment or taxpayers. I'll supply the refreshments and snacks. Instead of wealthy viewers with sweaters tied around their necks. After all we could assess those room taxes to their construction, couldn't we? Just as purposely/planned pointed as funding shortages for children's security needs on another issue. "

Myturn wrote on Aug 22, 2008 7:41 AM:
" How is it we have a very 'low' $32k per capita income in lacrosse, $17k housing allowances for Gow, and 66 applicants for the Chancellors postion. But we have just bestowed very large across the board raises to heirarchy that are already making six figure salaries? "
Myturn wrote on Aug 22, 2008 7:34 AM:
" Well then I would expect we need to fire up more on or near campus 'spot re-zoning', and 'satellite parking' for our favored developers drooling to fill the Regent directed expanding student enrollment. "
