Cassandra Tate, 13, of Wilton, and boyfriend Kevin Lozano, 16, of Norwalk, were located about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles, said Steve Kaczik, chief of the Norwalk Police Department.
By Monday afternoon, family members were on their way to Los Angeles to bring the teens back to Wisconsin, Kaczik said.
Kaczik said he launched a nationwide search for the teens just after they left the area in a 1999 Dodge Durango.
The alerts he sent out led to a possible sighting in Pennsylvania, then Sunday’s tips they were in Los Angeles.
Kaczik said he was impressed with the cooperation by Los Angeles police.
“I dealt directly with a precinct commander there, and he understood the seriousness of the situation. Plus — with me being a father and he was a father — neither one of us would want to be put in the position these parents were, so he made it a priority,” Kaczik said.
