Monroe County runaways found safe in Los Angeles

.
A pair of Monroe County teens were found safe in a Los Angeles home after they reportedly ran away early Wednesday.

Cassandra Tate, 13, of Wilton, and boyfriend Kevin Lozano, 16, of Norwalk, were located about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles, said Steve Kaczik, chief of the Norwalk Police Department.
By Monday afternoon, family members were on their way to Los Angeles to bring the teens back to Wisconsin, Kaczik said.

Kaczik said he launched a nationwide search for the teens just after they left the area in a 1999 Dodge Durango.

The alerts he sent out led to a possible sighting in Pennsylvania, then Sunday’s tips they were in Los Angeles.

Kaczik said he was impressed with the cooperation by Los Angeles police.

“I dealt directly with a precinct commander there, and he understood the seriousness of the situation. Plus — with me being a father and he was a father — neither one of us would want to be put in the position these parents were, so he made it a priority,” Kaczik said.

" Re: Sconni Fan
They ran away because they're kids/teens. If they want to do something they'll do it. This should not have been the first time people are hearing about this incident, an Amber alert should have gone out-especially since they had an idea of the type of vehicle they were in. Then these kids wouldn't have made it as far as they did. Thank God they're home safe now. "

" Why is this news now? Why not when they first went "missing"? "

" I'm sure the MCP did their part. I'm more interested in why the kids ran away. "

" I want to know what the Monroe County Police did to help find these teens?! Sounds like the family is VERY disappointed in how long it took them to take action. Good work Mr. Kaczik and thanks for your dedication and care in bringing these teens home safely!! You make a great role model for the monroe police on how a case like this should be handled!! Thank You!! "
