Brian J. Bohlmann, 46, of Madison was charged in Chippewa County Court last week with three counts of second-degree sexual assault by correction staff, two counts of third-degree sexual assault and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault.
Chippewa County District Attorney Jon Theisen said Bohlmann repeatedly used his position as a medical professional to sexually assault patients, according to an investigation by the state Department of Justice.
“Medical doctors take a Hippocratic Oath wherein they swear to protect their patients from harm and injustice. It is despicably ironic and unjust that any doctor would use his or her position to sexually harm patients,” Theisen said.
The incidents took place while Bohlmann was working as a physician with Medical Doctors Associates between April and September 2007, according to a Department of Corrections spokesman.
Bohlmann, who did not return calls to his Madison home, formerly was a jail physician in La Crosse County while working with Health Professionals Ltd. He left the company in June 2006, according to a company spokesman.
La Crosse County Sheriff Steve Helgeson said no one complained of inappropriate behavior from Bohlmann. Jail policy is to have a nurse present and a jailer outside the door during medical examinations, Helgeson added.
Bohlmann is due in court Oct. 28.
