Inez P. Deters
ONALASKA — Inez P. Deters, 85, of Onalaska passed away peacefully Saturday Aug. 23, 2008, at Sterling House in Onalaska.
She was born Oct. 28, 1922, to Ora and Mary (Peters) Abbott in Monroe County. Inez married Raymond Carpenter, and they later divorced.
She later married Joseph Deters. They lived in Madison, where Inez worked for Central Colony before buying and operating a bar and restaurant in Sauk City, Wis.
Joe and Inez moved the family to the Onalaska area in 1971. Inez worked over the years for the VA Hospital in Tomah, and then at Fort McCoy before retiring from the government in 1978. For approximately
22 years, she worked for several companies providing in-home care.
Inez was the consummate caregiver.
Inez is survived by her children, Don (Ann) Carpenter of La Crosse, Kay (Harold) Finley of Onalaska, Bruce Carpenter of Rensselaer, Ind., Bill (Peggy) Carpenter of Stoughton, Wis., Erv (Kim) Carpenter of Dodgeville, Wis., David Deters of La Crosse, and Thomas Deters of Onalaska; 24 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
Inez is further survived by her sisters, Calvera Cone of Sparta, June Goodenough, Sharon Edmison and LaVonne Shawley of Cataract, and Anna Mae Pollack of Angelo; and a brother, Warren Abbott of Silver Springs, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ora Abbott; mother Mary Fritz; brothers, Ben, Bernie, Byron, Bill, Basil and Spencer; and sister, Etta Taholski; by Ray Carpenter; husband, Joseph Deters; and son, Robert Deters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Fossum Funeral Home, 510 Second Ave S., Onalaska. The Rev. Daniel L. Henderson will officiate. Burial will follow in Cataract Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services.
Viola I. Ebner
Viola I. Ebner, 92, of La Crosse died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Bethany Riverside Care Center.
She was born May 2, 1916, in La Crosse to Peter and Ida (Franz) Larson. Viola married Arthur Ebner on Sept. 29, 1936. He preceded her in death May 13, 2008.
Viola did foster care and child care at her home for many years. She had worked at Modern Laundry and then retired from Gundersen Clinic after 25 years of service. Viola “Grandma Bird” enjoyed her canaries, traveling, gardening, baking and cooking. She was a member of Roy Vingers American Legion Post 52 Auxiliary, Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 Auxiliary, and Eagles Aerie 1254 Auxiliary.
She is survived by six children, Dale (Anahmarie) Ebner of La Crescent, Minn., Marilyn Klos of Richfield, Minn., Irene (Gerald) Hilleshiem of New Richmond, Wis., Karen (Paul) Levendoski of Middleton, Wis., Kenneth (Patricia) Ebner of Holmen, and Linda (Larry) Platz of Holmen; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Larson of La Crosse.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Richard and Leonard; and a son-in-law, Russell Klos.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m. at Bethany Riverside Faith & Life Center. Pastor Jim Arends will officiate. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Faith & Life Center on Thursday from noon until the time of services. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
Asacia Natali Rose Hackelberg
WESTBY/VIROQUA — Asacia Natali Rose Hackelberg was stillborn on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua.
Her parents are Ashley Tryggestad and Roger Hackelberg. She is also survived by a sister, Nadia Hackelberg; a brother, Axil McCormick of Gays Mills; maternal grandparents, Muriel “Cookie” Wood of Viroqua and John McKibbin of Westby; paternal grandparents, Leon and Kindy Hackelberg of Humbird, Wis.; maternal great-grandparent, Leonard Wood of La Crosse; paternal great-grandparent, Jean Walker of Humbird; uncles, Brock (Michelle Lorentz) Tryggestad of La Crosse, and Charlie Hackelberg of Humbird; aunt, Tonya (Steve) Helgerson of Viroqua; and many loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparent, Joyce D. Wood; and paternal great-grandparent, Dick Walker.
Private funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Bethany Lutheran Church, Esofea, with burial in the church cemetery.
