Barbara Bachman, of Farmington, suffered serious stab wounds and her husband Todd Bachman died in the apparently random attack Aug. 9 at the 13th-century Drum Tower, a tourist site in Beijing. The attacker then jumped to his death.
“Mrs. Bachman continues to make an extraordinary recovery from her injuries,” her physician, Dr. Scott Zietlow, said in a brief statement issued by Mayo. “I anticipate she will continue to progress in the weeks to come.”
Todd Bachman, 62, was the chairman and chief executive of Bachman’s Inc., a family-owned floral and garden center chain based in Minneapolis.
The Bachmans were in China for the Olympics. Their son-in-law is Hugh McCutcheon, coach of the gold medal-winning U.S. men’s Olympic volleyball team, and their daughter is former U.S. Olympic volleyball player Elisabeth “Wiz” Bachman McCutcheon.
Todd Bachman’s visitation is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, with funeral services Friday at Christiania Lutheran Church in Lakeville. The family asked in the statement Tuesday that the media not attend the visitation or funeral.
