Riders converge for Harley-Davidson’s 105th anniversary

.
Leslie Pheasant said she met her husband, Terry, at Harley-Davidson’s 100th anniversary celebration in 2003.

The Alaska couple now is part of Harley-Davidson’s Ride Home motorcycle journey for the 105th anniversary, set to start today.

Bikers in 105 different cities across America will converge into 25 cross-country routes that all lead to Milwaukee, the 1903 birthplace of Harley-Davidson.

Tuesday found hundreds of riders celebrating with a stop at the La Crosse Area Harley-Davidson dealership, 116 Oak Forest Drive in Onalaska.

Pheasant, 55, of Wasilla, Alaska, said they’ve already traveled 3,600 miles for the event.

“I like that I get a lot more experience riding on all different kinds of terrain,” she said.

Eric Eade, who works at the La Crosse Area Harley-Davidson, said the manufacturer’s anniversary parties continue to grow in popularity.

“We see people from all over the country and Canada coming,” Eade said. “It’s a great way to celebrate the brand.”

Bob Farnsworth, 52, of Oak Harbor, Wash., said he was looking for something to do after retiring from the Navy a year ago after 30 years.

“I had a brand-new bike, with about 4,000 miles on it, sitting in the garage,” Farnsworth said. “One of my friends said we should do this.”

The fellowship is great, he said, but there are other advantages.

“You have better weather here than I’m used to,” he said.

" Who gave OnaRes the book of tired old cliches? I'm surprised he had time to read it after trying to get his bike run right with the loud pipes and getting his Viagra prescription filled. "

" So i guess we'll have to wait about three weeks after the big b-day party to read about the announcement about the h.d. layoffs. "Look at me, i'm a big bad hardley dude. I have an identity now! Yippee!! Even if it is a stamped out conforming non-conformist identity complete with doo-rag and shiny leather pants. Oh, i'm sooo baaaad! Loud pipes save lives, helmets are for sissys. Disturb the peace, call attention to myself. Rock on! "

" I'll bite.

Loud bikes are rude and the people that have them are inconsiderate. I don't know how it can be seen as anything else. You might as well run through town setting off a blow horn. It's the same. If you think it's cool, just know theirs one person out there who thinks you're a moron. "

OnaRes wrote on Aug 27, 2008 9:37 AM:

" Krusty, I cannot believe, no one has commented on how the police should be arresting all the harley riders as they go through lacrosse, because they have loud pipes. "

Krusty wrote on Aug 27, 2008 2:15 AM:

" Now we will have all the idiots enter their comments about how they hate loud pipes... "
