Incumbents outraise challengers in House races

.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Incumbents in Minnesota’s competitive House races outraised their opponents in the latest reporting period and enjoyed big cash-on-hand leads going into the final months of the campaign, according to figures released Wednesday and reports filed this week.

In the 2nd Congressional District race, Republican U.S. Rep. John Kline outraised DFL challenger Steve Sarvi, $113,000 to $76,000. Kline finished the period, covering July 1 through Aug. 20, with $651,000, while Sarvi had $111,000.
In the 6th Congressional District, Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann said she raised about $245,000, and finished with about $1.4 million in the bank. Her DFL challenger, Elwyn Tinklenberg, reported raising $156,000, and finishing with $203,000 in the bank.

In the 1st Congressional District, Rep. Tim Walz announced he had raised nearly $250,000, compared with $95,000 for Brian Davis, the GOP’s endorsed candidate. Walz finished with about $1.25 million in the bank, while Davis had around $320,000. Dick Day, who is challenging Davis in next month’s primary, has not yet released his numbers or filed his report.

And in the state’s only open seat, the 3rd Congressional District, Democrat Ashwin Madia said he raised $352,000 in the period, and had $913,000 in the bank. His Republican opponent, Erik Paulsen, has not yet released his numbers or filed his report. The winner of that race will succeed Republican Jim Ramstad, who is retiring.
