Loggers' Melton released from hospital : La Crosse Tribune

Derek Melton, the La Crosse Loggers All-Star first baseman who suffered a serious neck injury on Aug. 3 while swimming at Pettibone Beach, was released from Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center on Wednesday.

According to a post on a web site affiliated with Gundersen Lutheran (www.caringbridge.org), Melton was released, then flown to Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he will will continue rehabilitation.

According to the Web site, Melton has been battling a number of complications since his surgery to repair vertebrae in his neck, including pneumonia.

Melton, 21, was in his first year with the Loggers. He is a junior at the University of Evansville (Ind.).
