The tribal council adopted a new election code last week that prohibits candidates who have been convicted of crimes, removed from office or have engaged in what leaders determine are "immoral or illegal acts" against the tribal government.
The five include members who recently occupied a tribal government building to protest financial dealings and closed meetings.
A tribal judge is expected to hold a hearing today. The Lac du Flambeau elections are next Tuesday. Six seats are on the ballot, including president and vice-president.
