McGuire Accepts Internship with u.S. Olympic Committee

Jessalyn McGuire, daughter of Patrick and Kerry McGuire (West Salem), has accepted a Performance Services internship with the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Spring, Colorado. Jessalyn works in both the Administration and Athlete Performance Lab of the Performance Services Department. She is currently a junior at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse and is majoring in Exercise and Sports Science- Fitness. She is also a member of the UWL Women's Swimming and Diving Team.

Local Longaberger home consultant launches new web site

Longaberger Branch Leader, Chris Kubal announced today the launch of a new Web site to sell Longaberger handcrafted baskets and other home and lifestyle products online.

The launch of www.longaberger.com/Chris Kubal is a milestone because it marks the first time that Kubal has Longaberger products available for sale via the Web. The online selling capabilities represent an expansion of her business, which has been conducted primarily through home shows. All online purchases are made using Visa or Master Card.

Health Cooperative to Initiate Health Plan and Other Services for Members

The Coulee Area Regional Employers (CARE) Health Action Cooperative has announced new membership benefits, including a choice of health care plans that are designed to reduce trend rate increases over time.

Roy Campbell, President of CARE and David Trapp, consultant to CARE, announced the membership benefits. Details of the new membership benefits will be presented to the CARE membership and guests at a meeting on October 18, 2007 at City Brewery Hall in La Crosse.

The healthcare plans are being offered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield/Anthem and are priced substantially lower than most plans and contain proprietary designs, especially for the Cooperative Members. The plans offer both Gundersen Lutheran and Franciscan Skemp provider networks.

In addition to the healthcare plans, CARE will provide information on other Value Added Services including:

1) A drug card to save 14-20% on prescriptions for non BC/BS/Anthem self-funded plans

2) Employee Assistance Program services

3) Non-medical in-home health services at a discount

4) Outpatient urgent care from Cornerstone Healthcare (Onalaska and Winona) at a discount

5) Allergy treatment services at a discount

6) Preventive dental care insurance at a reduced premium

7) Medical premium discounts of 2.5% for employer participation in CARE Group Life, Short Term and Long Term Disability, and Dental

8) Large claim audit system to recover billing errors

Campbell noted that employers would have to commit to working with CARE to improve the health of their employees and serve on at least one CARE committee. "We view this relationship with employers as a two way street and will enlist their support to have their employees engage in responsible, healthy activities."

Since its founding in 2002, CARE has worked to address ways to reduce the cost and improve the quality of health care. Its membership consists of 5,400 employees from 25 employers and 19 school districts. CARE conducted Regional Healthcare Forums with representatives of insurance, hospitals, consumers and labor in 2003 and has been working on the recommendations that emanated from those meetings. CARE has a working relationship with both the Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO Labor Council and the school districts in the area.

Universal Mortgage announces new member

Gundersen Lutheran welcomes new medical providers

Chad Rudie, PA-C, has joined the Gundersen Lutheran Orthopaedics department. He enjoys orthopaedics for a variety of reasons, including seeing many patients find at least some degree of relief from their problem soon after treatment. He has a special interest in total joint replacement.

A native of Coon Valley, Chad worked as an orthopaedic tech as an undergraduate at Winona State, an experience that helped him recognize his desire to be involved in patient care. He also spent time in Gundersen Lutheran Sports Medicine working as an athletic trainer.

Charlotte Rollie, CFNP, CNM, has joined Family Medicine at the Gundersen Lutheran - Prairie du Chien Clinic. With advanced practice nursing, Charlotte brings a mix of the caring model of nursing and evidenced-based medicine that women like when looking for a healthcare provider. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American College of Nurse Midwives and has special medical interests in primary care of women, gynecology, obstetrics and breastfeeding problems, looks forward to meeting, caring for and working with the clinic's patients and staff and the Prairie du Chien community.

Sylvia Osinde, PA-S, is Gundersen Lutheran's newest hospitalist. Osinde's training and experience in assessing, treating, controlling and preventing patient illness and disease are ideal for her new role as a hospitalist.

Osinde's is a familiar face around Gundersen Lutheran having worked in Family Medicine at Gundersen Lutheran - Sparta and Decorah Clinics, Trauma & Emergency Services, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery and General Internal Medicine.

Jessica Thesing, CRNA, recently joined Gundersen Lutheran's Anesthesiology department. As a CRNA, she has the opportunity to positively impact the surgical experiences of many patients and provide them with excellent nursing care. A member of the American Assocaition of Nurse Anesthetists, Jessica worked as a registered nurse at Mayo Medical Center in their general surgery/orthopaedic/trauma intensive care unit.

Carrie Gerhard, MD, has joined Family Medicine at the Gundersen

Lutheran-La Crescent Clinic. Dr. Gerhard spent time in La Crosse and Gundersen Lutheran as a medical student. Dr. Gerhard has a special interest in being able to take care of entire families, noting special medical interest in women's health, pediatrics and parenting education.

Jill Hendrickson, MD, recently joined the Lake Tomah Clinic as a family physician.

Dr. Hendrickson earned her medical degree from University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and completed her family practice residency at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Dr. Hendrickson is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Hendrickson will practice the full range of family medicine. Her areas of interest include obstetrics, pediatrics and hospital care.
