ST. PAUL (AP) � Pedestrians still will have a chance to see some of the action near Xcel Energy Center during next week's Republican National Convention.

While people will not have direct access to the area immediately surrounding the arena, officials said plenty of places in the convention area still will be open.
Pedestrians will be able to visit downtown St. Paul's Rice Park, a section of West Seventh Street and around St. Joseph's Hospital. Those sites will serve as backdrops for live TV broadcasts and musical performances.

A no-vehicle area around Xcel went into effect Friday evening and will continue through Friday.

The RNC starts Monday and continues through Thursday.
