Published - Monday, September 01, 2008 What are rules for Dumpsters? I need someone to answer a question for me: How is a person able to rent a large Dumpster and park it on a La Crosse city street for more than three months? This Dumpster is being used for storage, so doesn’t the law apply the same as it does for businesses parking trailers by their place? Or a bus, car or semi parked on the street? I called the engineering department and was informed you can pay for a permit and as long as you pay you can leave it there forever. I asked about on-side parking in the winter and was told it doesn’t apply to the Dumpster. The Dumpster is parked close to my house and next to an empty lot so it’s not on the renter’s property. I was told that my front street will not be plowed because of the Dumpster so will I get a small refund from the city for this? Why isn’t the Dumpster parked in front of his rental property on La Crosse Street? There is a shortage of parking is this area because of student housing and being near the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College. Will the city shovel the street near the Dumpster so another car can park near me?
