The V-Hawks used the momentum to beat Calumet College (Ill.) 3-2 in overtime at the Viterbo Athletic Complex, as Charlie Grill put away the game-winner.
Viterbo fell behind 2-0, then Danny Torres and Grill scored in the second half to tie it. The V-Hawks (1-1) earned a penalty kick as time ran out in the second half, and coach Andy Lee brought in Purdom for the try.
Purdom also made five saves in goal.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: Shannon Wickstrom scored three goals and Ashley Sorenson, Sam Anderson and Megan Loftsgaarden added two each as the Viterbo women cruised past Calumet 10-0.
The V-Hawks (3-2-1) outshot Calumet 23-0.
MEN’S GOLF: Viterbo’s Derrick Meier shot a 2-over-par 73 to win medalist honors at the Coulee Region Invitational at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska. The V-Hawks finished second in the four-team field, four strokes behind Upper Iowa.
WOMEN’S GOLF: Chelsea Dunnum shot a 90 to finish in ninth place, leading the Viterbo women at the Coulee Region Invitational. The V-Hawks placed fourth out of four teams with a 378 total.
Upper Iowa won in 323.
