Zao is a Christian nonprofit company that sells bottled water, takes the proceeds and drills wells for safe drinking water in Africa. The ministry’s Web site, www.zaowater.com, explains why water is so important. The United Nations estimates that somewhere in the world a person dies every 15 seconds because of a water-related disease. Infections caused by unsafe drinking water kill about 2 million people annually. There are no Wisconsin retail outlets that sell Zao water, but you can order online or make a donation directly. For $5,000, an individual, group or congregation can sponsor a well, providing access to water where there is no obvious water source.
