Mower County looks at four-day work week

AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) — Officials in Mower County are considering putting county employees on a four-day work week.

The shortened work week would be a way for the southeastern Minnesota county to save money.

Mower County Board member David Hillier, who heads the county's personnel committee, has pitched the idea to the other commissioners.

County employees would still work 40 hours during a week but in 10-hour shifts on four days.

County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said if the board wants to explore the issue more, it will need to address several issues such as union contracts and what buildings would be closed on the fifth weekday.

Winona County also is considering a four-day work week for budget reasons.
