Huebsch: Palin won over skeptics, made ‘tremendous first impression’

.
Supporters of Republican presidential nominee John McCain stepped up the praise for his running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in the wake of her convention speech Wednesday night.

Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch, who arrived in St. Paul on Sunday, said the vice presidential nominee’s appearance solidified his confidence in the Republican ticket.
“A couple weeks ago, a couple months ago, I wasn’t as optimistic as to what we were going to be facing at the top of the ticket,” he said. But with McCain and Palin, he added, the party has put forth the best possible pairing.

“We all came in skeptical,” he said. But by the end of the night, there wasn’t a single detractor.

“She won over everybody in the hall and won the hearts of people that were watching on TV,” Huebsch said. “The lines were good. The delivery was outstanding. She made a tremendous first impression.”

She proved she wasn’t selected because she’s a woman or because she’s young or because she’s a governor, he said. She personifies change, Huebsch said, noting her “maverick stance” meshes with McCain.

“(His choice) shows that John McCain is still a fighter pilot. This guy is still taking chances,” Huebsch said.

Germans who knew of Hitler's concentration camps and Russian who knew of Stalin's Gulag convinced themselves that their "Great and Kindly Leader" could not possibly have known of these things, when, in fact, these things were the brainchild of the "Great Leader." Bush certainly was in on the waterboarding thing...it's likely that the Abu Ghraib war atrocities came about straight from the top. That makes Bush and the rest war criminals. "

That being said, there is no proof that Bush ordered the Abu Ghraib treatment or even knew of it. I suspect Rumsfeld probably knew, but there again you need proof.

In the end, Abu Ghraib was straighten out. If Bush was truely a tyrant, you wouldn't have known about Abu Ghraib, and nothing would have changed there. "

Phil O'Bates wrote on Sep 6, 2008 6:40 AM:

" One last thing, Abu Ghraib.

In Abu Ghraib, we didn't train the jailers or give them a consistent guidebook--they had five versions and a lot of encouragement to improvise. They were under fire, in danger from the prisoners, kept up all night, and sent 3000 prisoners into a space fit for less than a tenth that. Then their senior officers praised how they stripped naked--as a matter of procedure--the suspected terrorists. In lieu of policies, the interrogation officers praised the initiative of the MPs for preparing the prisoners, mainly because their 'torture' worked in controlling the prisoners. "

" A few points for Big Spender,

One, I should have said a 'possible' tyranical Obama Administration. No one will know if he will be tyranical until he gets into office.

Two, I see nothing wrong with people in Alaska or else where discussing separating from an oppressive government. Even if Palin was part of that group, it would mean that she has the same type of beliefs as me.

Three, there is no Bush tyranny, no matter how you try to slice it. Look up tyranny and learn something.

Four, I love that Bush has done a wonderful job protecting America from Islamic terrorists. He isn't perfect, but far better than either Gore or Kerry would have been. "

The opposite is true--look at the tyrannical record of your beloved GW Bush and cronies: Abu Ghraib, NSA wiretaps on innocent U.S. citizens, waterboarding torture that even McCain has denounced, library records under surveillance thanks to Bush 'Patriot Act'....

You can't love Bush and freedom at the same time; the two are mutually exclusive. See the badness on your own side, then you'll begin to see the truth. "
