Bangor man sentenced to 35 years

.
A Bangor man was sentenced to 35 years in prison and 25 years of extended supervision Wednesday.

In June, Michael W. Hudson, 41, was found guilty in La Crosse County Circuit Court of child enticement and first-degree sexual assault of a child without great bodily harm.
Hudson had lured a 10-year-old girl into his apartment and sexually assaulted her in Sept. 2007.

“Being able to tell her (the victim) that she doesn’t have to worry about that man being on the streets for 35 years was a relief,” Tania Bonnett, assistant district attorney said.

Hudson’s lawyer asked for five to 10 years in prison and five to 10 years of supervision for the incident, indicating that he didn’t want to be kept away from his family and wanted treatment, Bonnett said.

Judge Elliot Levine’s primary objectives in the sentencing were to protect the community, punish Hudson and deter others from committing a similar crime, Bonnett said.

The judge also indicated that rehabilitation was the lowest priority considering Hudson’s 26-year record of criminal convictions including others related to sexual assault, Bonnett said.

" WOW- Are you not seeing the point of this? The man was 41 years old and preying on a 10 year old girl. As a victim myself, I think it's pathetic that as a society we cannot get past ourselves. How does the subject go from a 41 year old molester to comments about that dumb Palin broad? I hope that this guy gets everything he's got coming to him. How bout we light his balls on fire...... "

" Big Spender, spend an afternoon at the mall or in the juniors department in Kohls. A 14 year old in this society has been sexualized, not only by their own growing maturity but by a society that worships tacky celebrities and parents that can't say no. Is it emotionally healthy? No. But I have a hard time calling the 18 year old a sex offender. He's only taking what we have wrapped up in highly sexualized packaging. "

" To conscience, re: "What about the 18 years old senior in high school that gets convicted of statutory rape for dating the 14-15 year old freshman?"

A 14-year-old is a child--it's inappropriate for someone at 18 to "date" that person, in my opinion. "

" I'll tell you what conscience: go to the article on the book's case (you know the baby killer) and look at daily readers comments, you two should get together you seem to have the same IQ. and ethics of what is ok and not ok to do in this world "

" conscience:
an 18 year old sr. dating a 14-15 year old? I call that stupid, they should be slapped with sexual assult. What does an 18 year old about to go off into the world, college, work, etc. have in common with some one who may or may not still secretly play with barbies, and looks forward to roller skating? I'll tell you what that 18 year old wants, what the 14-15 yr. old is too young to be giving. If you have a son (or daughter) 18 dating a 14 year old, kick them in the pants and tell them to find some other interest. "

" Big Spender-
What about the 18 years old senior in high school that gets convicted of statutory rape for dating the 14-15 year old freshman? He should get tossed in prison for life? I completely agree that most sex offenses should be one strike and you're out, but not ALL of them. "

" I can see the article in the Waupun news now. Shortly after his arrival, Michael Hudson was lured by a 10-year prison veteran into his cell and sexually assaulted in September of 2008. What comes around goes around! Hopefully he gets hog-tied ;) "

" Wisconsin likes to let these characters out of prison early so they can prey on more schoolchildren (remember Spanbauer?). I found 217 released sex offenders in the 54601 area code alone:

http://offender.doc.state.wi.us/public/search/search.jsp

It didn't bother La Crosse city fathers or local citizens much when a bunch of sex offenders were housed a block from a north side school (Jefferson).

The only answer that works: one strike and you're out for ALL sex offenders. Forget rehabilitation because that hasn't worked; the need for public safety makes necessary permanent incarceration. "
