" Last I checked, it is a DEMOCRATIC controlled Congress, and the housing market was still in an upswing until the DEMS took over. Everyone likes to blame the President, but he doesn't make the laws, CONGRESS does. It is CONGRESS that is behind all of the bailouts. Unfortunately, there were many factors in this housing situation, primarily people who were trying to 'keep up with the Jones' buying way more house than they could afford. As was stated earlier...what about personal responsibility? Just because the bank said you 'qualified for 300K' doesn't mean you have to SPEND 300K! "

" The truth be told, I really feel for you folks in the midwest...you're hardworking, honest people...I simple can not believe the amount of taxes you pay, the relatively low compensation you recieve for all that hard work you do, and the difficulties you're forced to endure in just trying to achieve the American dream....meanwhile, freeloaders who have no desire to work or display any type of ambition, bitch about the free benefits they enjoy while doing NOTHING to contribute to society....there is something intrinsically wrong with that....Oil "

" Ok I feel sorry for someone who thought they could swing a $2000 payment on $60,0000 gross combined income. After they pay for cars, life insurance, auto insurance, income taxes, electric, gas for cars & home ,cable, phone, health insurance, property taxes, food, deductibles, credit cards, entertainment, clothing, daycare, and about $300 a month in whatever....the story ends very badly for most. " To enuff, re: "personal responsibility"

I agree: predatory lenders, Republicans usually, ought to take personal responsibility for their dishonest business practices. I'm glad we could come to a meeting of the minds on this salient point!

" Who has any right to tell someone else the way to live just because You think you are all that (which means your are in the same situation or you wouldn't have read the article) doesn't give you the right to tell people they are stupid for what they did because they probably thought they could afford it at the time. "

" If a banker gives a person a $300,000 home loan with anything less than $100,000 down should be shot. 25% or more down should be the norm, if you can't afford, you can't afford it.

I forgot to mention in my last entry that both couples are going to get divorced soon, the money problems wore them down and the ( hey look at me ) attitude got very expensive. That's 2 more homes in Onalaska nearing foreclosure. "

" Has anyone really checked this area out for homes, my gosh where and the heck are these people working. Why would anyone want to wake up every morning and think I'm living way over my head, but I sure look good. Get real people !
I have friends living in $300,000 homes and have a house hold incomes of $60,0000 gross. Living paycheck to paycheck if that, can't be all that fun. "

" I know whats its like to work for a company that has not laid off anyone for 30 years go out of business with others cause of Reaganomics. The people at Fleming,Rubber mills and the car workers in Janesville Know when their Jobs are Bushwhacked. Its more than personal responsibility "

" When the Big Time Financiers on Wall Street don't even understand what they are doing, where does personal responsibility come in for the average Joe that has been shell-shocked with jargon while simply trying to have a piece of the dream? Blame goes to all sides, but the "leaders" of this nation needed a bit more financial/economic training before they were allowed to be in charge. "

" I do not think personal responsibility is the cause of job loses and the stock market going bally ho , its Bush and His Hebert Hoover like Cronies. If we can spend billions bailing out Bear Stearns and others This Problem needs to be looked at.This is the first time in My life I seen an Inflationary War time Bear market recession "

There is a new concept out there, it's called personal responsibility. Lets advocate some of that! "

" There's a foreclosure prevention workshop on Election Day too: to prevent fiascos like this from occurring on the national level, don't vote for any Republicans.

If Republican leaders had done their job, predatory lending practices would have been curtailed, thereby sparing the nation from this Republican-induced mess.
