Personnel appointment marks City Hall first

.
City Hall is poised to have its first-ever female department head as Wendy Oestreich nears confirmation as La Crosse’s next director of human resources.

Oestreich, a nine-year city employee, has been interim department head since Jim Geissner retired in March.
She declined to comment on the appointment until after the Common Council’s confirmation vote Thursday evening.

The Finance and Personnel Committee this week unanimously backed the appointment, and the selection committee will brief the full council on its decision before votes on Tuesday and Thursday.

“Wendy is extremely well-qualified, with hands-on experience and a great personality to serve as our HR director,” said Audrey Kader, chairwoman of the Finance and Personnel Committee and screening committee member.

Before her city position, Oestreich spent 10 years as a human resources generalist in the private sector.

" Maybe things will get done around city hall.
Did anyone see the unemployment numbers, every sector lost thousands of jobs, the government added 17,000 how can that be with a slowing economy......Obama will add another 25,000 if elected. "

" I believe the Director before Jim Geissner was a female and was there from about 1990-1992. Check it out. But congratualtions to Wendy. Although the La Crosse Public Library is not IN city hall, it is a City Department and the Director is Kelly Krieg-Sigman, a female, who has been there 5 1/2 years and has been an excellent Director. She is very competent and very respected, both by staff and the public. Women CAN make great leaders! You GO, Wendy! "
