Steppin' Out in Pink setting records

Steppin' Out in Pink, the Gundersen Lutheran fundraising effort to endow a fulltime cancer research fellowship, drew a record number of walkers today on La Crosse's South Side.

About 3,300 people had registered by the end of the day Friday, and dozens more registered this morning. Last year's walk drew a record 3,180 people, including walk-ups.

This year's fundraising goal was $240,000, to be added to the $420,000 raised the first two years. The long-term goal is $1 million, which will be matched by the families of Norman L. Gillette and Donald and Norma J. Vinger.
