Second man dies from Eau Claire area crash

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — A second person has died after being injured when a car driven by a friend at an estimated 90 to 100 mph came over the crest of a hill and crashed last month.

Eau Claire County sheriff's Capt. Jeff Pettis said 23-year-old Shawn Loescher of Eau Claire died at a hospital Friday.

Michael Hiatt, 19, of Osseo was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Aug. 25 on a rural road south of Eau Claire.

Charges filed against the car's driver, 17-year-old David Jacobson of Osseo, include homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle in Hiatt's death.

Records show he told authorities he and his friends had been at a house party in Eau Claire and were returning to his residence at the time of the crash. He admitted he drank alcohol at the party.
