ELKHORN, Wis. (AP) — The defense attorney for a man accused of killing his wife in 1997 said a criminal complaint lacks sufficient evidence to link his client to the murder.

David Brossard of Burlington is being held in Walworth County on $500,000 cash bond. He's accused of killing his wife, Dawn Brossard, whose body was found weighted in chains in Geneva Lake in 2003. An autopsy found "complex skull fractures."
In court documents, Brossard's attorney, Charles Blumenfield, said the complaint doesn't have an eyewitness account, a confession, a murder weapon, fingerprints or other physical evidence linking the defendant to the murder.

A hearing on whether there's enough evidence to continue with the case against Brossard is scheduled Sept. 24.
