Board to continue referendum discussion

.
La Crosse School District administrators will present a scaled-back referendum proposal Monday for fixing many of the district’s facility needs.

The potential cost to taxpayers has been reduced by dropping plans for a new North Side elementary school, which cut $2.5 million from the capital improvements package that failed to gain voter support in a referendum in April.
The new proposal also would utilize $3 million from the district’s fund balance and a $600,000 gift from Trane.

The trimming has yielded an $18.5 million package for school board members to discuss at a special meeting Monday. A sample of referendum financing plans also will be presented, ranging from borrowing $6.7 million for five years to $21.5 million for 15 years.

Other improvements not in the new administrative plan are entrance office revisions at Franklin, Hamilton and State Road elementary schools and Logan and Central high schools; parking lot lighting at Logan High School; and heating, ventilation and air conditioning work at Franklin and Roosevelt elementary schools.

The Trane gift would be used at State Road Elementary, and Logan and Longfellow middle schools.

The board has until Sept. 20 to decide whether to put a referendum on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Monday marks their second special meeting on the issue. The next regular meeting is Sept. 15.

" Kember recives a 11.7% matching payroll retirement contribtion. He also receives an inexplicable $10.5k for a retirement annuity. Best this old Norske/roofer can figure, it is very close to $27k, per year, contributed for his retirement, byus, the taxpayer of Lacrosee. "

" BTW, Nobody arguing that, "schools on the Northside need no work". Some are however arguing that air condidtioning is not needed. Fix boilers, and assess the real waste of money where it belongs. Rather than hanging it on cute fuzzy bunny expenditures out of a bowl of many choices to pick from that might hurt the 'children'? Next? Choice between money for road infrastrucure, or funding for cute 4th grade 4Hers, chemically dependent, or elderly. Sorry too late, that was already done, by local Democrats (Steve/Steve the genius). That would be Steve the genius, with the 6% raise while the serfs got 2%. Stand up, take your head out of the trough , and take a bow. Not to be confused with the Jerry the $27k per year retirement recipient? Sorry, I can't LOL at that one, It's too sick. "

" Right back at you boyz. "the school district decides what schools need what, not politicians"? Now that is rich. Conglomerate all benefits under the guise that State funds will more efficiently and safely handle employee benefit funds. Collectively bargain with the help of largely Democrats so that they may buy votes as they give our money away. Then hold as a threat the ole scary 'judiciary bargaining system' if these contracts cannot be agreed on by System and Union. As if these 'appointed' Judiciaries are not on the same disproportunate benefit meal ticket like System janitors to the politicians themselves. Not wanting to even start the ball rolling on cutbacks on anyone, for fear it might head toward them? Now that is to LOL! "

" Myturn, er Northsider - You should move to the south side. You might feel better about yourself. "

" Myturn, are you really that dumb, the school district decides what schools need what, not politicians, besides you are the one saying the schools on the Northside need no work and are just fine.
P.S. Change your name back to Northsider "

" Here is the question. The $600k 'free' gift will garner Trane Company how much in eventual business/sales? Am I to believe that the Northside will be slighted yet again for air conditioning for all? Slighted again? An empty Northside Council seat ruled by Southside President of the Council Harnden until April 2009. An inability to 'fast track' a Neighborhood Organization for the same District Two and the District that the request derived from adjacent of Councilman Richmond's. Where previous meetings have been attended by 200-300, and she has been told to construct the formal groundwork by City Leaders will take over a year???? "
