DNR: Up to 1.7 million deer roam Wisconsin

.
MADISON — Wisconsin wildlife experts estimate that up to 1.7 million whitetail deer roam the state as the fall hunting seasons approach.

That's about the same population estimate from the Department of Natural Resources as a year ago.
Wildlife biologist Jason Fleener says a severe winter in some parts of north central Wisconsin may have claimed some deer. But he says most of the state's deer management units have more deer than recommended population goals.

Deer hunting begins Sept. 13 with the beginning of the archery season that runs through Nov. 20.

" My first goal is to catch the S.O.B. who has trespassed for the second year and took my stuff AGAIN! And people get mad cause we don't let anyone on our forty? Posting hasn't stopped them but they will get caught sooner or later! "

" Guys:

You want changes, show up the 2nd Monday in April. Every county in Wisconsin has a Conservation Congress hearing. You can introduce resolution and change the law, or you can stay how, sit on your a&& and nothing will change. "

" The tribune is surely a messed up paper try making a blog under Asian gangs on the rise in Onalaska article , you cant! Reducing the human population that own land, get tax breaks, dont allow hunting on their urban sprawl would be one alternative, having a long muzzle loader season longer than just one week would kill alot of pegnant does, also having a hunt in January would reduce the herd considerably "

" How about reducing the human population so these animals can roam freely without lack of food. "

" The DNR keeps telling us how we need to reduce the deer herd - yet they don't really do anything to help us achieve that. There are several options out there too. One would be to extend the gun season another week or two. Many other states have much longer gun seasons. I don't even mind EAB so much, but how about a continued EAB?? Example. Get your doe and EAB sticker, then continue to give out buck tags for every 2 does taken or something of that nature. There are just a few examples.... "
