" Hey all of you who are saying that you cant understand physiology or anattomy without understanding evolution...WHAT!? How does that make since, do you have any proof of this or are you just spouting out ignorance. Please give me proof! Newgrl86 is right i go to coulee too and it is a great education much better than that of most public schools, and how does this have any thing to do with the article, other than that crap about not being able to understand because we dont understand "Evolution". " As a graduate of Coulee for over 4 years I want to say that it's a whole different school enviornment then what you think. Yes, we prayed and sang, but we also excelled at school, sports, drama and music. My high school had 50 people in it and we were competing against schools of hundreds. Yes, we were taught creation, and debated evolution, we were exposed to both. I'm now a college graduate on my way to Law School. I am a liberal and I would never trade the life I had there for anything. We must be doing something right, we have a higher rate of students attending college then other schools. Our parents made a choice to send us there, and until you know the interworkings of the school you don't know what happens there. And even if you don't believe in God, this school works. "

" To Auto Pilot, re: "in terms of evolution vs. creation, when the two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive"
I agree, but the fundies would not agree. Hypothetically, one could have a 'creator' who uses evolution as a tool for the creation, yes. That 'finer point' is lost on most, however.
Faith in gods or creators, to me, is wishful thinking--faith comes from our visceral fear of death. It's hypothetically possible that some hyper-advanced space alien, aka god, created the universe or multiverse in its lab, yes, but there is no evidence of that, at all. Suppose that the above was true, then you're still at square one: what created the god/creator/alien? "
Auto Pilot wrote on Sep 8, 2008 4:28 PM:
" Big Spender, you're still thinking in terms of evolution vs. creation, when the two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. I consider myself a Christian and I learned long ago that's it's not about proof in the scientific sense, it's about faith. That's all you need, my brother.
FYI, I assume you believe in Love...even though you can't see it, hear it, taste it or measure any of its physical properties. How do you know it exists? Because we see the effects of Love every day. And remember, God is Love. :-) "

The article says that students are studying anatomy and physiology in a Xtian school: you can't really know those fields in a deep way if you don't get evolution and some Xtians don't get evolution (some do!).
Evolution is as solid as any engineering fact; there wouldn't be beagles if that were not so:
"In any meaningful sense evolution is a fact, but there are various theories concerning the mechanism of evolution"

Answer: I use the same evidence I use to prove Thor doesn't exist, or that Vishnu doen't exist, or Zeus, or the Great Spirit: implausibility, the fact that I ain't seem him/her/it running around my backyard lately, and, the fact that nature does its own thing without the need for something outside nature. That nature is still mysterious, even to physicists, is not evidence for gods.
So, what is your evidence for a Christian god? Have you spoken to her directly? "

The BELIEF of intelligent design, on the other hand, ignores these observations and offers an unverifiable "alternative" which doesnt follow known physical laws. Yes, its off the topic. "

" To "Big Spender":
What does evolution have to do with the article? There is nothing mentioned about evolution. And if you knew anything about reality, you would understand that there is less evidence for evolution that there is for a Creator God. In fact, it takes more faith to believe that everything "just happened" than to accept that an omnipotent God created it all. And what does the political race have to do with the school? Neither party supports the school financially. So, that comment was totally irrelevant, just like the evolution comment. Stick with the subject. "

" Aren't most Christian schools opposed to evolution these days?
You can't have a truly advanced grasp of a biological system without an advanced grasp of evolution, especially molecular evolution. You can't get an advanced grasp of chemistry if you deny the existence of atoms. You can't get an advanced grasp of physics, chemistry and molecular evolution if you dismiss quantum theory. I hope these kids never grow up to operate on me: they'll know nothing of anatomy or physiology because they can't grasp evolution.
You can't get an advanced grasp of sound government fiscal practices if you think like a borrow-and-spend Republican...but I digress. (Bush and the Repubs have nearly doubled the federal debt in 7.5 years to ten trillion!!!!) "
