Wrestling coach sentenced for assault

BARRON, Wis. (AP) — A former Turtle Lake wrestling coach has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at the high school.

Brian Scheps, 25, of Almena was placed on two years probation during an appearance Monday in Barron County Circuit Court.

The girl told investigators she had sexual intercourse with Scheps last December in the "wrestling room" at the high school.

Scheps originally was charged with two felony counts of second-degree sexual assault but pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor fourth-degree assault charges.

The two felonies would have exposed Scheps to a maximum 50 years in prison.
