HOLMEN Geneviene L. Hansen, 87, of Holmen, died at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse, on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. Darrel D. Lee
DE SOTO Darrel D. Lee, 74, of rural DeSoto died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born June 6, 1934, in Eastman to Adolph and Mary (Ghelf) Lee. Darrel served as a 3rd Class Gunners Mate in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956 and traveled to many parts of the world. He was a member of the West Salem American Legion Post. Darrel was labor leader for Laborers Local 140, beginning in January 1967, and was also the international representative from 1990 until his retirement Dec. 31, 1992.
On April 16, 1983, he was united in marriage to Mary Jensen in Sparta. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, visiting with friends, western movies and horseback riding. He had also been a part of the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by four children, Sheryl Lee, Kevin (Rose Olson) and Blaine (Janita), all of West Salem, and Kristina (William) Pryor of Oakdale, Minn.; four grandchildren, Tara, Ryan, Jake and Chelsey; four siblings, Don (Debbie) Lee of Madison, Betty (Verne) Flamme of Sun Prairie, Wis., Judy (Gordon) Johnson of Westby and Danny (Pam) Lee of Westby; nieces; nephews; and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gerildene Ames. Blessed be his memory.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at New Hope United Methodist Church at Red Mound, rural De Soto, with Pastor Bill Busch officiating. Marie Ann Haas
CASHTON Marie Ann Haas, 82, of Cashton passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in Sparta.
She was born May 31, 1926, in Jenkins Valley, near Cataract, to Albion and Elizabeth (Dickman) Geier. Marie attended St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic School.
She was united in marriage to La Mont Haas on May 2, 1950, at St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church. Together they were proud to farm for 58 years on the farm that La Mont grew up on. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Marie’s favorite hobby was gardening, especially flowers.
She is survived by her husband, La Mont of Cashton; children, Thomas Haas of Sparta, Marjorie (Harold) Oaks of Cashton, Judy (Eugene) Brueggen of West Salem and Jacqueline Haas of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Erin (Mike) Klinkner of Westby, Danielle (Tim) Weibel of Onalaska, Michael (Missy) Haas of Onalaska, Joseph Haas of La Crosse and Kaitlin and Alexis Brueggen of West Salem; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Madelyn and Emery Klinkner; sisters and brothers, Florence Steele and Henry and Robert Geier, all of Cashton, and Leo Geier of Norwalk; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albion and Elizabeth; her sister, Martha Seitz; a brother, Roger Geier; and an infant brother, Phillip Geier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday,

Joel O. Tralmer
ONALASKA/TOMAH Joel O. Tralmer, 40, of Tomah died tragically Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at the home of his parents. Joel fought a grueling battle with clinical depression and sadly lost the war.
He was born June 4, 1968, to Terry and Anna Mae (Kiefer) Tralmer in Tomah.
Joel was the loving, proud father of two daughters, Macey, 12, and Tori, 8, of Onalaska. His daughters were the reason he fought his disease as long and as hard as he could. He loved his job and the people he worked with at the Water Department for the city of Onalaska.
Joel attended Tomah High School, graduating in 1986. He was a very successful high school athlete. Following high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin-
La Crosse and was a proud member of the UW-L football team. Joel enjoyed the outdoors. Lawn care, hunting and fishing were his avid hobbies. He loved and was loved by his younger sister, Jami, and his younger brother, Chad. Their family has always withstood the hardships of life by their deep and constant love for one another. Joel’s kind and gentle demeanor will be missed by all.
In addition to his two daughters, Macey and Tori Tralmer of Onalaska, Joel is survived by his parents, Terry and Anna Mae of Tomah; his maternal grandmother, Don Elaine (Augie) Zimmerman of Tomah; his brother, Chad Tralmer (Sherri) of Tomah; his sister, Jami Tralmer of Eau Claire, Wis.; his ex-wife, Dena Swanson of Onalaska; aunts and uncles, Lamont (Dilynn) Kiefer of Tomah, Kay Saunders of Florida, Sharon Gilson of Chicago, and Tim Tralmer of Tomah; other relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Alice Tralmer and Donald Kiefer.

Fred Sundberg | Doris (Monti) Sundberg
MESA, Ariz. Fred Sundberg passed away June 4, 2008, and Doris (Monti) Sundberg passed away Sept. 20, 2007, in Mesa. Both were formerly of La Crosse.
Fred was born Aug. 5, 1930, in La Crosse to Oscar and Gladys Sundberg. He was a 1949 graduate of Logan High School. Doris was born Aug. 8, 1937, in La Crosse to Lyle and Bernice (Hatfield) Monti. She was a 1956 graduate of Logan High School.
Fred and Doris were married Oct. 27, 1956, in La Crosse. In 1975 they moved to Dubuque, Iowa, where Fred worked at John Deere until his retirement in 1986. They then moved to Mesa and enjoyed many warm years together and remained avid Packers fans.
They are survived by a son, Stan Sundberg of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Julie Sundberg of Mesa; four grandchildren, Doris’ brother Gerald (Daphne) Monti of Onalaska and their children, Danielle (William) Baxter, Kimberly (Gregory) Fink, Todd (Renee) Monti, Matthew (Jamie) Monti and Doris’ aunt Luella (Monti) Krause; and many cousins.
They were preceded in death by a son, Steven Sundberg, and their parents.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Mormon Coulee Cemetery in La Crosse.

Pearl I. (Bendel) Whitehouse
Pearl I. (Bendel) White-house, 95, of La Crosse passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008.
She was born in La Crosse on June 13, 1913, to Joseph and Emma (Klinske) Bendel. Her father was self-employed in a tire shop and service station, which he owned in Rushford, Minn.
Pearl grew up in Rushford, graduated from high school there and played center on the girl’s basketball team. She did routine work in the local stores until her marriage.
She married Frank Whitehouse in Decorah, Iowa, on April 3, 1937, and moved to La Crosse. She worked a few of her early years for a local camera and film shop. Pearl worked as school secretary at Emerson School for many years and retired at age 65. She volunteered in the pastoral care department at Lutheran Hos-pital for many years. Her expertise was working with terminally ill patients.
Pearl played golf at Hillview and Valley High for many years and enjoyed playing bridge belonging to many clubs. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir.
Pearl’s philosophy of life was, “What do we live for if it is not to make life less difficult for others?”
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on April 4, 1979; a brother, Harvey; and four sisters, Lena Duke, Bernice Danielson, Esther Sculley and Beverly Rislove.
She is survived by a son, Richard Whitehouse of Chicago; a granddaughter, Staci (Andy) Gorski of Mendota Heights, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 420 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Dr. Dennis Johnson, Ph.D., will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Following the reception at the church, burial will be in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the St. Paul’s choir fund or the charity of one’s choice.

Adelaide Addie’ F. Jostad
Adelaide “Addie” F. Jostad, 90, of La Crosse died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Nelson, Wis., to Amos and Ivy (Bisgrove) Brownell. Addie married Walden Moore and they later divorced. On Oct. 7, 1967, she married Helmer Jostad, and he preceded her in death Jan. 10, 2000. In addition to working as a homemaker, Addie was employed at Garment Co. in La Crosse for 18 years. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing and spending time in her flower garden.
Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Kohlwey of La Crosse; two sons, Jack Moore of La Crosse and James (Sue) Moore of La Crescent, Minn.; three stepsons, Howard (Pat) Jostad of Bloomington, Minn., Leon Jostad of Arizona and Phillip Jostad of Holmen; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Pearl (Raymond) Sumner of Augusta, Ga.; one brother, Sidney Brownell of Pepin, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Iva Brownell of Wabasha, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Addie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gene Moore; one son-in-law, James Kohlwey; one grandson, James Kohlwey; two brothers, Charley and Leon Brownell; and one sister-in-law, Betty Brownell.
Funeral services will be at at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. Deacon Richard Sage will officiate. Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery, rural Holmen. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Aloysius Al’ R. Moore Jr.
LA CRESCENT, Minn. Aloysius “Al” R. Moore Jr., 80, of La Crescent died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008.
He was born in Chicago on April 10, 1928, to Aloysius R. and Deborah (Naughton) Moore Sr. He married the former Joanne Anderson on Oct. 9, 1952, in La Crescent.
Al served with the U. S. Navy on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Korean War. He later worked for Allis Chalmers in La Crosse for 21 years until the plant’s closing and then worked for the La Crescent School District for an additional 30 years until his retirement in 1998.
In his free time, Al enjoyed playing cards and bowling. He was a member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 and the Knights of Columbus Council 5115, both of La Crescent.
Al is survived by his wife, Joanne; two daughters, Karen (Bill) Kasten of Onalaska and Cathy (Ron) May of Verona, Wis.; three sons, Larry (Jackie) Moore of La Crescent, Robert (Sue) Moore of Belvidere, Ill., and Steven (Laurie) Moore of Sherwood, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, Jason and Erin Moore, Carrie (Christian) Staehly, Scott, Robert and Michael Kasten, Jacob, Alex and Taylor Moore, Dustin and Ethan May, Caleb Moore and Andrea and Andrew Adams; one-great grandson, Shay Hall; two sisters, Colleen Collins and Katy (Bob) Langen, both of
La Crescent; one brother, Mike (Carol) Moore of Hokah, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Arlene Moore of La Crescent; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas and James Moore.

Lorraine M. Mackie
Lorraine M. Mackie of La Crosse, loving mother, passed away at the Franciscan Skemp Health Care Center Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at age 91.
She was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Marshfield, Wis., to William and Rose (Eckes) Sautner. She married George Mackie, and he preceded her in death June 3, 1983. Lorraine will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters, Pat (Edward) Reget of La Crosse, Jayne (Steven) Lange of Minneapolis and Mary (James) Ruetten of Atlanta; a son, William (Mary Jane) Mackie of Pewaukee, Wis.; a sister, Germaine “Toots” Herman of Marshfield; 11 grandchildren, Sue, Tim, David, Randy, Mary Ann, Michelle, Sallie, Jeff, Steven, Shanon and Dana; many great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters; one brother; and special friend, Beverly Wittenberg.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette St., La Crosse. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from noon until the time of services. The Rev. Roger Scheckel will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Joyce Corrine Suchla
Joyce Corrine Suchla, 82, of La Crosse died Monday,
Sept. 15, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Medical Center in Arcadia.
She was born April 16, 1926, in Onalaska to Leonard and Nina (Danielson) Johnson. On March 31, 1976, Joyce married Apolinary “Paul” Suchla at North Beaver Creek Church in Ettrick.
Joyce was a member of North Beaver Creek Church. She had a great interest in traveling and music, especially dancing.
She is survived by three sisters, Bernice Bishop (significant other, Marlo Klibber) of
St. Joseph, Mo., Fern Durbin of Las Vegas and Elizabeth Zurbuchen of La Crescent, Minn.; two brothers, Curtis (Hazel) Johnson of Post Falls, Idaho, and Victor (Jean) Johnson of Arcadia; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Joyce in death were her parents; one brother, Robert Johnson; two sisters, Linda Warner and Phyllis Ruff; one son, Perry Greenwold; first husband, Norman Greenwold; and second husband, Apolinary “Paul” Suchla.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home, Arcadia, with Pastor Dave Baldukas officiating. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Arcadia. Friends may call from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

George Rasch
WATERFORD, Wis. George Rasch, 97, of Waterford passed away peacefully at home with family at his side on Sept. 16, 2008.
George was born Feb. 13, 1911, in Chicago, the son of the late Anton and Anna (Kucera) Rasch. He spent his early life in Berwyn, Ill. On Aug. 13, 1948, in Hales Corners, Wis., he married Eleanor K. Nolan. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After their marriage, they lived in Berwyn and for a short period in Waterford; they then moved to Hales Corners and settled in the Buena Park area of Waterford for the past 20 years. George’s principle occupation was a furrier, working with mink and other furs. George was proud to serve his country in the Army during World War II. He was a past commander of a local VFW post and supported many military groups. He was very proud to fly Old Glory in front of his home every day. While in Berwyn, George enjoyed managing the Little League at St. Mary’s of Celle and the past years in Waterford walking his white dog through the neighborhood in Buena Park.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor; five children, Daniel (Jenny) of Berwyn, Lee (Susan Fox) Rasch of La Crosse, Tom (Marge) Rasch of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Peggy (Jim) Bennett of Inverness, Ill., and Steve Rasch of Waterford; grandchildren, Erica (Andy), Aaron (Michelle), Jeff, Dana, Tammy (Alan), Shari (Ray) and Juliana; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Prazan and Lorraine Douglas; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Emil and Tony.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 307 S. First St. (Hwy. 20), Waterford. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery following Mass.
