City clerk: Don’t delay registering to vote

Tribune staff

Advanced registration for the Nov. 5 election cuts off 20 days before Election Day, and the La Crosse city clerk urges residents to file now.

Before Oct. 15 people can register in the city clerk’s office at La Crosse City Hall, 400 La Crosse St., through a voter registration drive or through the mail. Oct. 15 through election day, voters can register at the city clerk’s office. And on Election Day voters can register at their polling place by providing proof of residence.

New voters, Clerk Teri Lehrke said, must provide a Wisconsin driver’s license or ID number. If a person doesn't have a Wisconsin driver's license or state ID card, they may use the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Lehrke encourages voters to take advantage of the following registration methods:

  • By mail before Oct. 15

  • City clerk’s office

  • Public library, 800 Main St.

  • South Community Library, 1307 16th St. S.

  • University of Wisconsin-La Crosse

  • Viterbo University

  • Western Technical College

  • Central High School

  • Logan High School

  • South Side Oktoberfest grounds, from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday

  • Wal-Mart Supercenter, 4622 Mormon Coulee Road, from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 4

  • Wal-Mart Supercenter, 3107 Market Place, Onalaska, from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 4.
