Margaret “Petey” M. Holley, 95, of La Crosse died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse. Memorial services will be announced by Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, La Crosse.
Joseph A. Kiehl
ARCADIA — Joseph A. Kiehl, 97, of Arcadia died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Grandview Care Center in Blair.
He was born Feb. 1, 1911, in Arcadia to John and Julia (Swietz) Kiehl. On June 8, 1943, Joe married Evelyn Reck at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia.
Joe worked for area farmers until 1950 and then tended bar for John Sobotta for five years. In 1955, Joe took a job as janitor for the St. Aloysius Catholic School, where he worked for 20 years. While working at St. Aloysius, he also dug graves at both Calvary and St. Joseph’s Cemetery and was in charge of cemetery maintenance for
35 years. He also sold monuments. Joe was a member of Holy Family Parish. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing and trapping. He was also a gifted carpenter and proudly used his skills to remodel his entire home.
He is survived by a son, Dennis (Sue) Kiehl of Arcadia; three granddaughters, Laurie (Neil) Zastrow of Arcadia, Lisa (John) Riesterer of Appleton, Wis., and Andrea (Jeff Hartwick) Kiehl of Eagan, Minn.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Mitchell and Cody Zastrow, Emilee, Bethany and Haylie Ferguson, Johnny and Noah Riesterer, Julian Kiehl Hartwick and Luciana Kiehl Hartwick.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents; wife, Evelyn; three sisters, Martha Marsolek, Magdaline LaFaun and Theresa Bozden; and six brothers, Aloysie, George, Clarence, Pete, Stanley and Rudy Kiehl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Parish, Arcadia, with Father Michael Klos officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home, where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service. Friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Casket bearers will be Neil Zastrow, John Riesterer, Jeff Hartwick, David Marsolek, Peter Reck and John Reck.

LANSING, Iowa — Robert “Robbie” Howe, age 77, of Lansing died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at his home in rural Lansing. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford, with Msgr. Edward Lechtenberg officiating. Derrick George
SOLDIERS GROVE, Wis. — Derrick George, 44, of Soldiers Grove passed away on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in Soldiers Grove.
He was born in Viroqua on June 25, 1964, to Harris and Linda (Heal) George Jr. He married Lea Hansen on July 17, 1999, at Reads Creek Arboretum near Readstown. He graduated from North Crawford High School in 1982 where he was a state qualifier in wrestling. He loved archery — in which he won three medals at the Badger State Games in traditional archery. He also wrestled while attending UW-Platteville. In 1988, he graduated from Viterbo University in business. He also loved hunting, fishing, was a coin collector and a knife collector. He custom designed all of his own bows and made his own arrows.
His greatest love was his son, Hadley, who meant everything to him. Derrick enjoyed dancing with him, reading to him, going for walks in the park with him and had looked forward to going hunting and fishing with him.
He is survived by his wife, Lea of Soldiers Grove; one son, Hadley of Soldiers Grove; his mother, Linda of Soldiers Grove; his sister, Kristine George of Soldiers Grove; his niece and nephew, Haley and Tristan; his father-in-law, Marvin Hansen (Rita Helgerson) of Soldiers Grove and his mother-in-law, Mary Anne Hansen (Brian Knox) of Lancaster, Wis.; his two sisters-in-law, Lisa Hansen of Richland Center, Wis., and Sarah Hansen of Viroqua.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harris George Jr.; his grandparents, Harris and Faye George; and his special companion dog, Jamaica.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Soldiers Grove. The Rev. Pam Lojewski will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sime Funeral Home in Readstown and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church.

Alice A. McCallson, 91, of La Crosse died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
