She was born in Eau Claire, Wis., on Oct. 18, 1921, to John and Alma (Gardow) Juroszek. She married Harold “Bones” Bartig on Feb. 14, 1943, in Eau Claire.
As a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Arlene was an active member of her church family. She enjoyed her time spent with the LWML Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and truly lived her Christian faith by helping others in need. She enjoyed teaching little ones in Sunday school. Arlene loved singing in church and faithfully attended worship services. Her faith in Jesus Christ, her Savior, never wavered. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren treasure her values and faith that she lived every day of her life.
Friends were always welcome at the table, and no one ever went away hungry! She loved to cook and always made sure there was something “sweet” in the house for dad! She loved to gather around the kitchen table for a good game of “500” with friends and family and looked forward to each season of the Brewers, Packers and Badgers.
Arlene made many friends as she worked as an Avon Lady for more than 26 years. She also shared her love of the kitchen while employed as “The Muffin Lady” at Gundersen Lutheran’s Patio Coffee Shop, the Commissary at Rudy’s Drive Inn and as a cook at Sagen Center.
Arlene is survived by Harold, her husband of 65 years; her three children, Donald (Bette) Bartig of Ladysmith, Wis., Sandra (Richard Sr.) Lofthouse of Fennimore, Wis., and Thomas Bartig of La Crosse; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jeff (Sara) Bartig, and their daughters, Kate and Anna, of Houlton, Wis., Steve (Sally) Bartig, and their children, Emily, Maggie, and Ryan of Elk Mound, Wis., Capt. Majelle (Brad) Susler, and their son, Cohen, of Panama City, Fla., and 2nd Lt. Dick Lofthouse, Jr. of Menomonee, Wis.; two sisters, Beverly (Felix) Jungerberg and Joyce Farwell, both of Eau Claire; and nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Kelly Lofthouse; and a brother, Donald Juroszek.
