Fischer, 69, of McGregor, Iowa, was driving a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis about 2:50 p.m. north on Hwy. 52, just south of Fountain, Minn., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. According to police, Fischer hit a guardrail on the southbound side of the highway and was hit by an oncoming Chevrolet passenger car being driven by Dale Finseth, 81, of Fountain.
Finseth and Fischer’s 69-year-old wife, Arletta J. Fischer, suffered minor injuries and were transported to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., for treatment. Dale Fischer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both vehicles were totaled.
Dale Fischer was the third person killed in Fillmore County in just more than three weeks.
Kerry L. Affeldt, 45, of Wykoff, Minn., was killed Sept. 21 when the motorcycle she was a passenger on collided with a car on Hwy. 43.
Darrell Irving Storlie, 59, of Harmony, Minn., was killed Sept. 15 when his vehicle ran off Fillmore Hwy. 30 and hit a tree.
