Local girl died of accidental drug overdose at music festival

.
A West Salem teenager who died in late July at the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival in Detroit Lakes, Minn., died from an accidental drug overdose, authorities said today.

Toxicology results on Ashley McCoy, 17, found oxycodone and methadone in her system, Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon said. She had been prescribed oxycodone, a pain reliever, from a recent surgery.
No foul play is suspected.

McCoy was found unconscious in her tent on site at the music festival July 25.

" ohcliche, the only reason you are sitting on here backing up the other people or person involved is because you are now dating her boyfriend. everyone knows what has happened was wrong, obviously no one thinks that anyone intentionally killed ashley, the only reason people are seriously bothered by this, is because if her friends really cared about her, they would just admit that they did the drugs with her, and had no intention of hurting her, but yes, what they did was wrong and what happened was unfortunate. obviously the person she was with does drugs as well, so the cops are just looking into this to see if they can potentially prevent this from happening to other kids in our area. so everyone needs to stop protecting whoever it is, and just fess up and end this. its hard on everyone sitting here reading this. " I feel sorry for this family. But, with that being said, yes both these families, especially the family of her mother, have been in West Salem for years and anyone who knows her maiden name knows this. Peer pressure cannot be to blame, children make bad choices but children also no how to say no. All students know about the DARE program that I am sure she attended while attending WS High School as all of them do. I am thinking as a mother, my teen would not be sent to a musical festival without adult supervision, with a prescription for a narcotic. Only asking for something bad to possibly happen. "

" okay first of all, the friends that were there and knew what happened have already told the McCoy family everything that they know. The peer pressure had nothing to with the choices that she made. I don't really appreciate you blaming her death on anyone but her own choices. The friends that she was with wouldn't do anything or give her something to cause such a terrible thing. They all love Ashley, and we're all praying for the family. "

" TO sillyme;

The family is not influential in West Salem. I know the family. Also, it was accidental. She could have ben drinking, but that is not what hurt this girl. It was more than likley the peer presure of others, which would mean good friends. But to say this girl was a recovering user is NOT a fact, and you need to get your facts before you start talking. Just feel bad for the family. Trust me the only people who have any pull in West Salem would be the Brown family. "

" She had a RX for the oxycodone BUT where did she get the methodone? Did she have alcohol in her system as well? How can it be accidental?
Funny the accidental overdose would happen at a music festival. Was her tentmate questioned? Also, a driver's license I think it stated in a story a while back was found in the tent. If it really was stolen, it should have been reported to get a replacement. Also, who stole it? Lots of questions without answeres. I'm guessing the family is influential in West Salem so the death became an accident. "

" lets just wait until everything comes out. I'm sure the family will get the answers, and if someone (Ashley's freinds) are any freinds at all, they will tell the parents everything they know, good or bad do not say things that are not true or you cannot prove "

" I sure hope they do take a closer look into this. Have they checked credit cards or debt cards transaction or cell phone history of the person whose ID was found in the tent and claims it was stolen. Check to see if they were used at or in the area of this music festival.... "

" Why would she take both if she is a recovering user? People really still use the word druggy? I haven't heard that word in at least a decade Wilbur, but then again I don't live in La Crosse anymore either. "
