WAUMANDEE, Wis. - Virgil Adank, 81, of Waumandee died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Medical Center in Arcadia. Wozney-Killian Funeral Home of Arcadia will be assisting the family with arrangements.

Ralph R. Du Pae

Ralph R. Du Pae, 83, of La Crosse died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in his home.

He was born in La Crosse on Jan. 30, 1925, to Leonard and Elizabeth (Weigent) Du Pae. He married Kathleen Mc Leod on Nov. 23, 1948, in St. Columbia C/C Iona, Minn. Ralph worked 48 years for Northern Engraving until his retirement in 1992. He was a proud veteran on the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of La Crosse; four daughters, Bonnie (James) Reese of Des Plaines, Ill., Denise (Osborn) Shackelford of Peoria, Ariz., Michelle (Will) Claypool of St Croix Falls, Wis., and Ann (Terry) Best of La Crosse; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Ralph is further survived by one sister, Janice Smolek of La Crosse.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Joseph of La Crosse.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home-Nelson Chapel, 1007 Caledonia St., La Crosse. The Rev. Roger Scheckel will officiate with entombment to be held in the Garden Mausoleum at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home on Friday.

Memorials are preferred and will be determined by the family at a later date.

Helen L. Endle

TOMAH - Helen L. Endle, 87, of Tomah died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Tomah Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Burial will follow in Mondovi (Wis.) Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to services Friday at the funeral home. JoAnn ‘JoBo’ R. Harris

HOKAH, Minn. - JoAnn “JoBo” R. (Boening) Harris, 55, of Hokah died on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Medical Center.

She was born on June 14, 1953, in La Crosse to Walter and Florence (Woehlke) Boening. JoAnn was a 1971 graduate of La Crescent (Minn.) High School. She married Reid Harris on Feb. 23, 2000. JoAnn had worked for over 20 years for the La Crescent/Hokah School District. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of her kids. She also loved turtles, her dogs and cocktails.

JoAnn is survived by her husband Reid; a daughter, Leah Boening; three stepchildren, Reid, Jolene and Wes Harris; a sister, Barb (David) Bissen; two nieces, Angie Bissen and Christina Peterson; an aunt, Ruth Hahn; a cousin, Peggy Landsom; her father- and mother-in-law, Marshal and Margot Harris; and many other family members and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent, Minn., with the Rev. Merle Ware officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery in Hokah. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given for an educational fund that will be established for JoAnn’s daughter Leah.

Marian Frances Jaszewski

DODGE, Wis. - Marian Frances Jaszewski, 83, of Dodge died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Creek. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home, Arcadia, and 9 a.m. to services Saturday at the church. Archie E. Jorgenson

HOUSTON, Minn. - Archie E. Jorgenson, 65, of Houston died on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at his home.

Archie was born on Nov. 21, 1942, in La Crosse to Daniel and Rovilla “Lovie” (Vix) Jorgenson. He was raised at South Ridge, Minn., where he attended country school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966. On Dec. 7, 1963, Archie married Carol Williams in La Crescent, Minn. Archie worked for Ace Telephone in Houston from 1966 to 2002, when he retired as an exchange manager and technician. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Houston and the Houston American Legion for 40 years. Archie was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; one son, Archie (Cheri) Jorgenson of Harmony, Minn., four grandchildren: Katie, Dorothy, Anna and Krista; two great-grandchildren, Bobbi and Ben; and by one sister, Mary (Dave) Mader of Caledonia, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alvin and Harold.

There will be a Funeral Mass for Archie at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Houston with the Rev. Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel, where there will be a prayer service immediately following the visitation. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Sister’s of Mount Carmel in Houston, Minn., or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Houston.

Angus ‘Sonny’ James McConnell

CARSON CITY, Nev./LA CROSSE - Angus “Sonny” James McConnell, 79, of Carson City and formerly of La Crosse passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Carson Tahoe Regional Health Care Center in Carson City.

He was born Sept. 12, 1929, in La Crosse to Lester and Mabel (Jacobson) McConnell. On Oct. 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Carol D. Herold at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse.

Angus served in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 4, 1951, until Oct. 1, 1971. He served our country with a tour of duty in Vietnam and retired with an Honorable Discharge as a Master Sergeant. For all those who knew Angus, whether by the name Sonny or Mac, he was always the life of the party. Sonny loved his country and he loved his family and friends. Sonny stood for all things good. We love him and he will be missed.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife, Carol McConnell of Carson City; seven children, Angela (Ted) Stevens of St. Cloud, Minn., Bruce (Melissa) McConnell of Lincoln, Calif., Cynthia McConnell of Carson City, Valerie McConnell of Sacramento, Calif., Natalie (Richard) Blaver of Dayton, Nev., Brian (Nora) McConnell of Peach Tree City, Ga., and Sheila (Ron) Gutman of San Diego; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald (Bonnie) McConnell of El Mirage, Ariz., and John McConnell of Osseo, Wis.; and one sister, Kitty Mae “Dolly” McConnell of La Crosse.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille “Tootie” (Duane) La Ronge and one brother, Lester McConnell.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. Pastor Don Iliff will officiate. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Eternal Light Mausoleum at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until time of services.

Curtis E. Palmer Sr.

HARPERS FERRY, Iowa - Curtis E. Palmer Sr., 80, of Harpers Ferry died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rossville (Iowa) Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at IOOF in rural Rossville. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, Iowa.

Robert ‘Bob’ E. Tollefson Sr.

Robert “Bob” E. Tollefson Sr., 88, of La Crosse died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Services will be announced by Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home of La Crosse.

Raymond F. Williams

SPARTA - Raymond F. Williams, 86, of Sparta died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in Sparta. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sparta. Mary Ann Woodruff

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa —Mary Ann Woodruff, 86, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Father Don Czapla officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Mary Ann was born to Paul and Ann Muetze in La Crosse. She attended Catholic school for 12 years and was married to her high school sweetheart, “Woody” for 67 years. Mary Ann was optimistic, and she was passionate in her love of family and friends. She was devoted in her faith and inspirational in vision. She enjoyed playing cards, preparing meals and maintaining an efficient household. We treasure our memories of Mary Ann and we are comforted in her continued petitions on our behalf.

Her survivors are her husband, Richard P. “Woody” Woodruff of Marshalltown; her children, Richard D.(Sharon) Woodruff of Osage, Iowa, Mary Lou Grier Speas of Phoenix, Mark(Cathy) Woodruff of Marshalltown and Stephen Woodruff of Marshalltown; her 12 grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren; her siblings Dorothy(Bob) Opitz, Beverly Fredrickson, Shirley Gentile and Fred Muetze; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tim Woodruff; brothers-in-law, Billy Fredrickson and Tony Gentile; sister-in-law, Donna Muetze, and a nephew.

WAUKON, Iowa - Muriel Bakkum, 89, of Waukon died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
