News tracker: City finance director

.
What we knew: La Crosse’s Deputy Finance Director Wayne Delagrave has served as interim department head since Finance Director Gene Pfaff left office. Council members Richard Becker and Andrea Richmond introduced a measure to make Delagrave, a 26-year employee in the Finance Department, the new director. A number of council members objected, favoring a full search.

What’s new: The La Crosse Common Council voted Thursday to refer the responsibility of filling the vacant post to a search and screen committee, the members of which have yet to be named.
What’s next: Council President Bill Harnden will name a search committee within two weeks.

" Some one needs to check into the fact that Pfaff is getting paid to the end of the year!! "

" I want you all to understand this! Last Tuesday when pressed they murmured a few name on this Committee. A Committee that did not exist before then. A Committee that active reports and Council Members did not know exited. NOW!!!, Last night there were statements to scratch those names, for a new list of Members, that 'HE' will name later. By the way Sweeney, you have slowly slipped to the oldest profession on earth! 8 to 8 on Tuesday? 9 to 7 last night. Sweeney moved his vote, again. I do not have to read the vote last night, I could recite it before it was taken. As I will display soon, in a public forum, on a flow sheet, on past mirror voting on important issues and projects. " The people that run this City never cease to amaze me. They can't decide, LIKE RIGHT NOW, that they need to hire Wayne? He's been the Deputy there for probably around 20 of the 26 years he's been with the City. Who else are you going to find with any more knowledge or experience about the City's finances than Wayne? Wasn't it about a month ago that they decided to fill Geissner's position with HIS second-in-line? And SHE was no more "qualified" to fill THAT position than my pet parakeet! They have a perfectly qualified candidate in this instance. HIRE HIM! Now they're going to waste a bunch of time and money attempting to make a selection by a bunch of puppets chosen by a guy who probably doesn't even know how to balance his own checkbook. Does it ever end? "

" I have worked with Wayne for the past 5 years professionally. For the City of La Crosse their is not a man with the knowledge and integrity to fill the position. "
