He then quoted Exodus 20:13: “Thou shalt not kill” and added “Period!” He said there is no fine print for babies only, it’s for everyone. He seems to be using this as an anti-capital punishment and anti-war statement. He didn’t mention that it’s not the Republicans who tend toward pro-choice.
Just after, “Thou shalt not kill,” (“You should not murder” in my Bible) is Exodus 21. It has eight lines of fine print on using capital punishment.
I would ask that if you’re going to use a Christian theme, you stay in the Christian Scriptures.
Anti-war? What were Midian and Jericho? And lest we forget there are the Philistines and the David and Goliath story.
What do those Christian Scriptures say? Matthew 22:39: “You must love your neighbor as yourself.” This covers commandments five through 10 succinctly.
And war? Matthew 26:52: “All those who take the sword will perish by the sword.”
Using 1st John 3:17-18 to comment on social reform? This was a letter from John to the Christian Congregations at the time, admonishing them to take care of there own. This was not Jesus speaking.
So I ask you, Democrat or Republican, which one is the “true Christian?” Which one follows Jesus’ footsteps and refuses to be part of the political system?
Who walks away, not even debating it? I think that to be either and call yourself a true Christian is the real hypocrisy. But don’t believe me. Do as Randy has suggested. Read your Bible.
