And just because that gas grill has delivered its last hamburger, doesn’t mean it’s on its last leg. Think what a great patio table it could become.
If you can save it from the junk heap, Holmen Lioness Marion Bertelsen hopes you will turn it into something that can be auctioned at the first Recycle Fest, a fundraiser for the new Holmen Library.
The repurposed items will be sold in a silent auction, unless the person making the item indicates he or she wants to keep the recycled treasure.
Because this is the first Recycle Fest, Bertelsen said she doesn’t know exactly what to expect, but she hopes the silent auction, matching funds from Thrivent and a raffle of items including a painted carousel horse can raise $5,000. The raffle items are on display at the Holmen Library.
Aside from recycling trash into treasure, the Lioness Club also wants people to bring scrap metal to either Ethel’s or the Recycle Fest event at the American Legion. Then Runde Metal Recycling in Holmen will weigh it and give a check to the library fund for whatever the metal is worth.
“We’re also asking people to bring eyeglasses. We’d be most happy to hand them over to the Lions,” she said, because recycling eyeglasses is one of the Lions’ projects.
And as long as you’re cleaning up around the house, also bring along your old U.S. flag, and they will make sure it is properly disposed of.
