Fenton, former host of the PBS television series “America’s Walking,” will talk to business and community leaders as well as teachers, students and community members.
The La Crosse area Pioneering Healthier Communities team will hold several sessions with Fenton during the two days:
Active community assessment, 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 21, Radisson Center, Second Street South and Jay Street. Community leaders, citizens, parents, city planners, business owners will walk with Fenton for an assessment of downtown La Crosse. Participants can learn how to make the community more walkable and friendlier for walkers and bikers.
Healthy school settings, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 21, Irving Pertzsch Elementary School, 524 Main St., Onalaska. Parents, government officials, education and business leaders, along with law enforcement and park and recreation officials, will hear about different ways to get kids more active at school that go beyond physical education class.
Business leader breakfast, 7:30 to 9 a.m. Oct. 22, Radisson Center. Fenton will address the connection between healthy community design and a healthy, sustainable economy.
Workplace and physical activity promotion, noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22, multipurpose room of YMCA North, 400 Mason St., Onalaska. Human resource managers, facility management and health and wellness staff can learn how to encourage employees to be more active.
Town hall meeting: “Eat Well and Move More,” 7 p.m. Oct. 22, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Cleary Alumni and Friends Center, 615 East Ave. N. Join WXOW-TV Ch. 19 news anchorman Dave Solie as Fenton and local experts explore ways for families to get more active and eat healthier.
