The state Department of Transportation says several concrete piers holding up the College Avenue bridge will be blown up with explosives. The exact time of the demolition will be released Monday.
The bridge originally opened nearly 50 years ago.
The $16 million project to replace it is nearing the end of initial work. Razing the current bridge is one of the last steps.
Appleton police and city officials are working with bridge crews to determine how much to limit public access near the bridge during the pier demolitions.
The new bridge is set for completion in November 2009.
