Pauline A. Gotz
Pauline A. Gotz, 50, of La Crosse died unexpectedly in her home Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008. She was born in Marshfield, Wis., on June 26, 1958, to Clarence and Theresa (Korger) Gotz. Our beloved daughter, sister and wonderful aunt left her life on earth to rest with her Father and loved ones gone before her.

She is survived by her mother, Theresa Gotz of La Crosse; her siblings, Phyllis (Mike) Craig of Onalaska, Charlotte (John) Hershey of Bangor, Ken (Laurel) Gotz of Holmen, Alice (Jeff) Clements of Coon Valley, Patricia Gotz of La Crosse, Mary (Mark) Schuttenhelm of La Crosse, and Carol (Jeff) Mohring of Mosinee, Wis.; 13 nieces and nephews, Michelle Craig, Corey, Carl and Colette Hershey, Ashley, Robert and Sandra Gotz, Ryan Clements, Luke and Anna Schuttenhelm, and Spencer, Clare and Natalie Mohring; and her beloved best friend, her dog Kirby ... 110 pounds of fur!

She married Barry Rumpel in 1991; they later divorced but still remained friends. She was employed for 32 years at the La Crosse County Courthouse. She enjoyed her interesting job as a deputy clerk and the wonderful co-workers and friends she met throughout the years. Pauline was involved in many activities but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Pauline will be remembered for her sense of humor, even when there was nothing to smile about, for her courage and perseverance during her many battles with her illnesses and challenges, and for her devotion and dedication to the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence, in 2001; and one niece, Amy Craig.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, W2601 Hwy. 33, St. Joseph Ridge. The Revs. Thomas O’Neil and Francis Abuah Quansah will co-celebrate, with burial to be held in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Joseph’s Ridge. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. S., La Crosse, with a rosary to be said at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass in the church Thursday. Memorials are preferred to Coulee Region Humane Society or St. Clare’s Health Mission, both of La Crosse.

Pauline, you were our sunshine . . . and now our angel, we will miss you deeply.

Hattie Nelson

SPARTA — Hattie Nelson, 90, of Sparta passed away peacefully at her home in Sparta on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008.

Hattie was born in Cataract on Sept. 5, 1918, daughter of Howard and Elsie (Scheifier) Huntington. She attended school in the Cataract area. She was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in 1934.

She was united in marriage to Norman Nelson. Together they adopted two girls, Carol and Kendra. Hattie worked as a nursing assistant for 11 years in California. In 1989 she retired and moved back to Sparta.

Hattie is survived by her daughters, Carol of Eau Claire, Wis., and Kendra of Sparta; a stepson, Ronald DeVore; one sister, Geraldine Gehler; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman, in November 1980; her brothers, Walter, Ernest and Harold Huntington; and one sister, Margie Nordby.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sparta. Pastor Mark Wessel will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Sparta. Family and friends are invited for visitation from noon until time of services at the church.

John A. Nutt

John A. Nutt, 87, of La Crosse died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Hillview Health Care Center in

La Crosse.

He was born May 19, 1921, in Dubuque, Iowa, to John and Helen (Kutsch) Nutt. John graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1939. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. On Jan. 15, 1944, he married Ruth E. Yeager in Liberal, Kan. John was employed by Trane Co. in

La Crosse as an engineer for 34 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530, Boy Scouts of America and also was a volunteer for Elder Care, all in La Crosse.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; a daughter, Margaret (Greg) Kraynek; three sons, Richard (Darlene) Nutt, Joseph (Sherry) Nutt, and John (Kate) Nutt; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Sanner; two brothers, Charles (Inez) Nutt, and David (Pam) Nutt; one sister-in-law, Millie Nutt; two brothers-in-law, Jack Tully and Lee Bolling; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Kraynek; three sisters, Margaret Tully, Anna Mae (Robert) Jaster and Delores Bolling; and one brother, Joseph Nutt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 13th St. S., La Crosse. Father Lawrence Berger will officiate. Entomb-ment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse with military honors by the Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 of La Crosse. Friends may call at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse, on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of the Mass.

David C. Inglis

HOLMEN — David C. Inglis, 71, of Holmen passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born Aug. 12, 1937, in Hampton, Iowa, to John C. and Shirley E. (Egbert) Inglis. David grew up in Iowa Falls, Iowa, and attended the Uni-versity of Iowa, majoring in history and English. David had a keen and kind sense of humor and cared much for others. He often said he was glad he could laugh at himself. David will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by a son, John C. (Lyn) Inglis of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; two daughters, Kaylynn (Robb) Sanderson of Cool, Calif., and Jane (Mark) Stein-horst of Prairie du Sac, Wis.; and four grandchildren, Melissa, Josh, Robert and Jared.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, in 2001; his parents; and a brother.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of Onalaska. The Rev. Calvin Helming will officiate. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in Onalaska City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated in David’s name.

Thomas Delbert Stone

WAUKON, Iowa — Thomas Delbert Stone, 81, of Waukon died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with burial in Oakland Cemetery, both in Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

VIROQUA — Robert “Bob” Getter, 66, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Thorson-Reetz Funeral Home of Viroqua.

TOMAH — Thomas T. Stone, 72, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at the Tomah VA Hospital. Memorial services with military rites will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home in Tomah. Relatives and friends may call from 11 a.m. to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Jane F. McKenna

SPARTA — Jane F. McKenna, 63, of Sparta went to her eternal reward Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in Sparta after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

She was born Sept. 17, 1945, in Prairie du Chien to William and Irene M. (Smith) O’Neill.

Jane graduated from Aquinas High School in La Crosse in 1963. She continued her education by graduating from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She received her master’s degree from North-western University in Evanston, Ill. While attending Duquesne, she met her future husband, Joseph N. McKenna. They were married at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in

La Crosse on Aug. 17, 1968.

From this union, Jane and Joe were blessed with three children, Patrick (Jodie) McKenna of Sparta, Michael (Kelly Triemert) of Minneapolis and Maureen (Andrew Cecka) of Madison. These children were the delight of Jane’s life, and she proved to be a loving mother and grandmother. She is also survived by her husband, Joseph McKenna of Sparta; two grandchildren, Joshua Nichols and Alayna McKenna; numerous cousins; and the “troop” from Aquinis High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta, with Father James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sparta. Friends may call at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home in Sparta on Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., and Friday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Harry Dallas Lewis

MUSCATINE, Iowa/LA CROSSE — Harry Dallas Lewis, 67, formerly of Muscatine, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine. Visitation for Harry will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Muscatine. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Harry. Harry was born Sept. 24, 1941, in Muscatine, the son of Neil and Frances (Stroh) Lewis. Harry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a state trooper for 15 years in Iowa, but most recently was employed as a human resource manager at McLone Metal Graphics in La Crosse.

Harry will be deeply missed by his three children, Patty Tobin of Minneapolis, Ellen Raymer and her husband, Alan of La Crosse, and Pete Lewis and his wife, Christy of La Crosse; eight grandchildren; one brother, Larry Lewis and his wife, Joyce of Holmen; and one sister, Charlotte Erickson of Ettrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lloyd Messer; and one sister in infancy.

Dr. Clifton H. DeVoll

A memorial service for Dr. Clifton H. DeVoll, former University of Wisconsin-

La Crosse basketball coach and associate dean of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at First Presbyterian Church, 233 West Ave. S., La Crosse. A reception will follow.

Memorials may be made to the Cliff and Diana DeVoll Scholarship for Teaching in Physical Education or to La Crosse Exercise and Health Program, in care of the UW-La Crosse Foundation, 615 East Ave. N., La Crosse, WI 54601.

Dr. DeVoll is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diana; and two children, Charles and Jody.

Katherine ‘Katy’ M. Johnson

BLACK RIVER FALLS/ ONALASKA — Katherine “Katy” M. Johnson, 61, of Black River Falls and formerly of Onalaska died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Katy was born in Sparta on Sept. 7, 1947, to Leon K. and Ruth K. (Askelson) Johnson. She was raised in Onalaska and graduated from Onalaska High School in 1965.

She worked for 10 years in the Respiratory Therapy Department at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. In the late 1970s, Katy moved to Jackson County. She has been employed as a certified nursing assistant at the Pine View Care Center for the past 23 years.

Katy enjoyed spending time with her brother, sisters and many friends. She loved feeding and watching birds.

Surviving are her special friend, Steve Holthaus of Millston; her son, David Melton of Greenfield, Wis.; a granddaughter, Gianne Marie; a brother, Leo (Joyce) Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; six sisters, Audrey (Art) Helgeson of Loveland, Colo., Betty (Sanford) Nerby of Rochester, Minn., LaVonne (Stan) Kohlhepp, Margaret Olson and Sandra Johnson, all of Eau Claire, Wis., and Donna Erickson of

La Crosse; and a sister-in-law, Coleen Askelson, Decorah, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ralph Askelson; and a brother-in-law, Paul Erickson.

There will be no visitation. A celebration of Katy’s life will be held at a later date.

Joan M. McHugh

Joan M. McHugh, 67, of La Crosse died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

She was born May 30, 1941, in La Crosse to Arthur and Eldred (Rybold) Stark. Joan was a 1959 graduate of Central High School in La Crosse. In November 1963, she married Neil McHugh at St. John’s UCC in La Crosse. Joan was employed as a clerk at the

La Crosse County Register of Deeds office for several years.

Survivors include her husband, Neil of La Crosse; one daughter, Lori Gooding of Austin, Texas; one brother, David (Linda) Stark of La Crosse; one sister, Mary Stark of Minneapolis; and one sister-in-law, Sue (John) Nost of Lisbon, Iowa.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward Stark.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. The Rev. Donald Fox will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services.

Everett H. Heyming, 76, of La Crosse died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at his home. Arrange-ments will be announced by Dickinson Family Funeral Homes.

Linda H. Lasko

ONALASKA/BANGOR —Linda H. Lasko, 59, of Onalaska passed away at her home Sunday Oct. 12, 2008.

She was born March 31, 1949, in La Crosse to John and Irene (Streeck) Souchek. She married Gerald “Gene” Lasko on May 11, 1979. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1967.

Mother was a great provider for her family, she loved country music and was a faithful Packers fan.

She is survived by her husband, Gene of Onalaska; two sons, Floyd and Terrie Johnson Jr. of Bangor and Gerald R. Lasko of La Crosse; three daughters, Nancy (William) Peterson of Sparta, Jeannie (Steven) Mathews of Cataract and Jennifer Lasko (special friend John) of Tomah; eight grandchildren, Mandy, Monica, Timothy, Alex, Kelsey, Kylee, Aubrey and Owen; one brother, John Souchek Jr. of Bangor; four sisters, Norma Anderson of Bangor, Barbara (Lawrence) Anderson of Bangor, Sherry (John) Gilbertson of La Crosse and Sandra (Rick) Lasko of Bangor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Timothy J.; one brother, David; and one sister, Judy.

Linda’s request was to be cremated, with private family services and burial to be held at a later date. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Floyd Johnson Jr. residence, 1004 Cardinal St., Bangor.
