Man arrested for theft of brass fittings

.
Theft charges were filed Tuesday against a French Island man accused of stealing $2,400 worth of brass fittings from his former employer.

Standly R. Thomas, 45, of 17805 La Crescent St., Apt. 128, reportedly took five brass fittings weighing 116 pounds from SkipperLiner, 127 Marina Drive, and sold them at an area scrap yard Monday for about $35, according to the criminal complaint.
The scrap metal company called La Crosse police because the fittings appeared to be new.

Thomas told police he took the brass because money was tight.

He was laid off a few days later, he said.

Thomas was charged Tuesday in La Crosse County Circuit Court with theft, bail jumping and obstructing officers in an unrelated case.

" They gave him just enough to make it a crime and most likely it will be forever before they see their 35 bucks again thats most likely why they didnt give him full market value. I been scraping for 25 years and theres alot of what I call weekend scrapers comming into the fold trying to make a quick buck that really dont know the business and they will take advantage of those guys at the scales for sure after all they are the middleman and the cheaper they get it the more profit they make.
This guy was an idiot! He was busted the minute he scaled and the scale house worker probably had a good idea where those fittings came from at first sight. "

" Obama would just give him the money, no need to steal. Wait a minute, where does the money come from...... "

" Thomas is the one who got ripped off, he should have got at least 75 cents a pound for that brass. "
