Iva R. Bolchen
BOSCOBEL, Wis. — Iva R. Bolchen, 84, of Boscobel died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Boscobel Area Health Care, Boscobel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Boscobel. Burial will be in Boscobel Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.

Ingre E. Bressler

Ingre E. Bressler, 85, of La Crosse died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday. A complete obituary will be provided by Dickinson Family Funeral Home, La Crosse.

Lester E. Gatzke

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Lester E. Gatzke, 91, formerly of Preston and Wykoff, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, in Burnsville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, both in Preston. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Thauwald Funeral Home, Preston.

Laura Frances Kuehl

Laura Frances Kuehl, 78, of La Crosse died at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse, on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008.

She was born in La Crosse on March 25, 1930, to Ludwig and Martina (Chjose) Scheck. On Aug. 25, 1951, she married Robert Hatch, and they were later divorced. On April 21, 1977, she married Verne Kuehl in La Crosse. Laura graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Blind in Janesville in 1949. Laura was responsible for the forming of the White Cane Club in La Crosse.

In the early 1970s, Laura and her late husband, Verne, opened their hearts and home to elderly disabled gentlemen. When the state licensing went into effect, Laura and Verne also opened their home to 12 veterans from the VA hospital in Tomah. Throughout her life, Laura was always taking care of others and doing whatever she could for those in need. Laura was always in her kitchen cooking and baking for her grandchildren and visitors that stopped by.

Laura is survived by two daughters, Donna (Roger) Privett of Vancouver, Wash., and Denise (Steven) Carter of Bentonville, Ark.; two sons, Douglas (Cynthia) Hatch of La Crosse and Andrew (Karyn) Hatch of Goodyear, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Hooverson of La Crosse; a sister-in-law, Clara Scheck of La Crosse; a son-in-law, Ray (Cindy) Pierce of Medford, Ore.; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy (Charles) Johnson of Holmen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne Kuehl; a son, David Hatch; a daughter, Diane Pierce; two stepchildren, Lewis and Josette Kuehl; a grandchild, Sean Privett; a sister; and seven brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 701 Well St., Onalaska. Bishop Steven Sorensen will officiate, and burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, La Crosse. Family and friends may call at Dickinson-Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., La Crosse, on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., and at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wisconsin Council for the Blind or Gundersen Lutheran Foundation.

Ruth Whipple Pretasky

Ruth Whipple Pretasky, 94, of La Crosse passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, peacefully at Alice Haus Care Center in Rhinelander, Wis.

Ruth was born in La Crosse on Nov. 11, 1913, to Herman and Martha (Schimmelpfennig) Willer. Ruth married Weldon Whipple, who passed away in 1958 in La Crosse. Ruth married her second husband, Harold Pretasky, in 1975 in La Crosse

Ruth was active as a lifelong member in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Meals on Wheels delivery, and mostly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth’s greatest achievement was purchasing the Twin Shores Resort in Barnes, Wis., which she owned and operated for 15 years.

Ruth is survived by her son, Stephen (Sharon) Whipple of Lake Tomahawk, Wis.; five grandchildren, Thomas Whipple of Sterling, Va., Linda (Rob) Ugaste of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., Michelle (Kevin) Graham of Spring Grove, Ill., Andrea (Keith) DeJong of Antioch, Ill., and Melanie Whipple of Wilmington, N.C.; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Ebner of La Crosse, Margaret Snyder of Amarillo, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, friends and wonderful neighbors.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Jon Whipple; first husband, Weldon Whipple; son, Paul Whipple; grandson, Edward J. “Terry” George III; son, David Whipple; second husband, Harold Pretasky; and daughter, F. Diane George.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 25 (today) at 10:30 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Ave. S., La Crosse. The Rev. Roger Sachs will officiate with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. before the service at the church. Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Devin R. Raymus-Farlow

Devin R. Raymus-Farlow, infant son of Anthony Farlow and Erin Raymus of La Crosse, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born in La Crosse on Aug. 18, 2008. In addition to his parents, Devin is survived by a brother, Quinten M. Raymus, at home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Todd Mlsna and Chaplain Mike Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
