" Glad to see so many comments. Now lets make sure you show up for the rate increase hearing. La Crosse has always had a good turnout. We have had to request the hearings because Xcel loves to have them in Madison where not a single Xcel customer lives--except for the elected officials who serve our area. We cannot afford another rate increase, an increase specifically designed to expand nuclear waste storage at Prairie Island and expand production by another 50MW. The plant is already operating at one of the highest levels in the country of any plant. The plant is more than 20 years old and has had serious maintenance problems. Stop putting money in a plant that will only create more high level nuclear waste with no place to store it. Yucca Mt is full before it will ever open, if it ever does. "

" Minnesota-Based Xcel Energy Finds Money in Tight Budget to Pay for Lobbyists.
Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News,
By David Hanners, Saint Paul Pioneer Press, Minn. Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News
Sep. 29--While Xcel Energy was cutting costs by reducing maintenance, eliminating security guards at power plants and leaving faulty equipment unfixed for months or even years, it was increasing the amount of money it spent on something customers rarely see: lobbying.
Xcel, which provides electricity to 1.3 million customers in the state through its Northern States Power-Minnesota subsidiary, spent at least $1.5 million -- and perhaps as much as $1.75 million -- to influence state regulators. "

" Wow, how amazingly ironic that some of these same posters are such strong McSame supporters. When Obama wants to help the working class and McSame wants to continue with making sure these CEOS and corporations keep getting richer. No wonder he doesn't know how many houses he owns. Companies like Xcel are paying his bills for him...be careful who you put in the Whitehouse. It's obvious (and stunning) how many of you didn't learn a thing from the BUSH era. Wow. "

" Why is our government letting these big companies smother us slowly to death. Seems like as soon as you adjust to a rate hike with one the next one is looking for theirs too, just keep pushing harder on the pillow and why not try sitting on top of us to make it harder to inhale! I use 13 watt bulbs throughout my house and unplug things that aren't in use to try to save, then excel comes up with an increase!!! "

" Coal has nosedived, natural gas has dropped by over 50% since last spring, oil has dropped off a cliff...yet we still see a rate increase. How about a rate cut? Why don't that have variable rates that constantly change with market conditions...like a gas station? "
