The 23-member ensemble, considered America’s premiere boychoir, lived up to its billing with an extremely entertaining Heartland tour concert and outstanding repertoire that included classical, contemporary and folk music.
A great crowd at La Crosse Central High School gave the choir a standing ovation.
The American Boychoir has wonderful high voices and talented individual singers that blend well. Every song the choir sang seemed to be a favorite, but two of mine were “Here I Am Lord” and “Still wie die Nacht.”
Yet it was the finale, a South African medley, that showed off the clarity, musicality and ensemble work in a cappella singing with movement and drums.
The La Crosse Boychoir held its own as the opening act with a delightful and solid performance of Purcell’s “Sound the Trumpet” and “The Silence and the Song.” Central’s Robed Choir was impressive in three songs, from the charming “How Can I Keep From Singing On,” by La Crosse’s Nancy Matchett to the glorious choral fanfare by John Rutter.
It was a special evening of music, and even more special for La Crosse Boychoir members who heard a sensational boychoir and had a chance to host their counterparts at their homes.
