Politicians for many years have tried to make taxes an issue. Businesses and industry (including oil companies) all pay taxes on their earnings. The one thing that politicians know and try to muddy the water about is that the taxes paid by business and industry are passed on to the general public in form of increased costs of goods and services.
So, in other words, we the people ultimately pay the increase in taxes by seeing the cost of goods and services going up. Think about it!
Secondly politicians always try to make it sound like the rich pay very little or no taxes. Statistics from the IRS for the calendar year 2006 show just the opposite, the top 50 percent (50 percent) of income earners pay 97.01 percent of the taxes. Any one can view this data as it came from the Internal Revenue Services Web site and is there for you to check out.
It seems like all the political rhetoric talking about the taxes we pay is just a little bit distorted. Think about it!
