Harvey Townsend, 53, used a metal fence post to smash 16 windows and a storm door of his neighbor’s house Oct. 20 on Swatek Ridge Road in Steuben, Wis., according to the criminal complaint filed against him.
The 54-year-old neighbor told authorities she shot warning rounds from a .22 caliber pistol and did not intend to hit Townsend, Crawford County Sheriff Jerry Moran said.
Townsend fled after the shooting and was found by a police canine in a nearby wooded area with a gunshot wound to the left abdomen.
He was charged Thursday in Crawford County Circuit Court with one felony count of criminal damage to property. Townsend is in the Crawford County Jail on a $3,000 cash bond and has a preliminary hearing set for Monday.
The victim has filed a restraining order against him, according to court records. She is not expected to face charges.
Townsend, who has recovered from the gunshot injury, is believed to have attacked the woman’s home because she was not romantically interested in him, Moran said.
