Nancy Conner Dahl
Nancy Calloway Ott Dahl, 85, of La Crosse passed away at Hillview Healthcare Center on Oct. 30, 2008.
She was born July 16, 1923, to Ben and Jessie (Calloway) Ott in La Crosse. When Nancy was 3 months old and her brother John was 4 years old, her mother, Jessie, died. Nancy was raised by Eddie and Elsie (her aunt) Newburg. Nancy was always grateful to be blessed with a wonderful childhood with her cousin, Bill Newburg, and her brother, John. John was raised by his grandparents, Will and Magdalena Ott. John and Nancy spent summers together at “Sunset Cottage” on an island on the Mississippi River. Later the cottage was lost due to the building of the lock and dam.
Nancy went to school in La Crosse and then attended Durham Hall in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. Nancy married Chuck Conner in 1942; they were later divorced. In the 1950s, she taught modeling and organized style shows. She also did some TV commercials for WKBT. She enjoyed being involved in the Mississippi Gamblers and the Tuesday Club Investment Groups. Her gardens were her true love and the passion and skill for gardening came from Will Ott, who was a master gardener. She took great pride in her home at 1801 Cass St.
In 1968, she married John Weigel and lived in the Chicago area. During this time she also modeled for Saks Fifth Avenue.
After returning to La Crosse in the 1970s, she married Kenny Dahl.
Nancy is survived by two daughters, Sue (Charles) Gelatt and Lynn (David) Kulas; seven grandchildren, Colin Jimieson (Jenn Wells), Katie (Brian) Devlin Huxtable, Jennie Devlin (Mike Douglas), Sarah Ipsen, Anna Ipsen, Brook (Wendy) Torstenson and Eric (Gwen) Torstenson. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren. Nancy was blessed to have Cindy Peterson and Jan Zenker as two special people in her life who helped care for her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Krisa Torstenson; a brother, John Ott; and her dear friend, Sam Fellows.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 233 West Ave. S. The Rev. Taylor Haley and Father Bernard McGarty will officiate. Friends may call Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Organization, Hillview Healthcare, Diabetes Foundation, Franciscan Skemp Medical Foundation, Gundersen Medical Found-ation, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family is grateful for the loving care that Nancy received from Watkins Manor and Roger Metz Facilities in Winona, Minn., and the wonderful staff at Hillview Healthcare Center. Thank you all for your compassion.

WATERVILLE, Iowa — Virginia M. McCormick, 83, of Waterville died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. Kenneth E. Hanson
VIROQUA — Kenneth E. Hanson, 94, of Viroqua passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Bethel Home. He was born April 25, 1914, in Mason City, Vernon County, to Lewis and Ragnilde (Josvanger) Hanson. He attended Ole Torger Elementary School and was confirmed at North Kickapoo Lutheran Church. After graduating from Viroqua High School, he attended Vernon County Normal School and graduated in 1935 and taught for one year at the Foreaker School. Kenneth and his brother-in-law, Ingvar Overbo, purchased Williams Family Shoe Store on Main Street in Viroqua. They operated the Overbo and Hanson Shoe Store together until 1944, when it became the Hanson Shoe Store. Kenneth married Charlotte Hetland on May 30, 1936, at Little Brown Church in the Vale in Iowa. They lived in Viroqua all their married life and both retired from working at the shoe store in 1983. Throughout his business career, Kenneth was active in community affairs, serving as a charter member of Viroqua Lions Club (1947), an eight-year member of Viroqua Board of Education and many years on the board of Citizens First Bank. He was president of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for three years and treasurer for 14 years, during which time the current building was constructed. He served as chairman of Vernon Memorial Hospital Board and Hospital Foundation Board as well as Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Club. Kenneth was also the proud owner of Hanson-Lewison Dairy Farm on Viroqua’s north side.
Kenneth is survived by his son, Roger (Bonnie) of Indio, Calif.; granddaughters, Angela (Doug) Ash of Roseville, Calif., and Tamara (Jeff) Platt, of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Tyler Ash, Austin Ash, Logan Ash, Kendall Platt and Hunter Platt; sister-in-law, Freda Hanson of Platteville, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. Kenneth is also survived by Bernice Schroeder of Viroqua who has been his dear friend and companion for the past 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte (1988); infant daughter, Audrey Jean; brothers, Martin and Arnold; and sisters, Ella Vold, Ida Olson, Lydia Peterson Marshall and Louise Olson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastors Margaret Eiben-Hoversten and Lindsay Paul Jordan will officiate, with burial in Viroqua Cemetery. Kenneth John Beyer
Kenneth John Beyer, 70, of La Crosse died on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008. He was born Oct. 13, 1938, in La Crosse to John and Leona (Strittmater) Beyer. Ken attended Aquinas High School and enlisted with the U.S. Army, serving from 1956 to 1959. Ken was employed at Trane Co. as a drafting technician for 31 years, retiring in 2001. In recognition, he helped design the absorption chiller at Trane. Ken’s passion was spending time with family and friends, especially during the holidays, and deer hunting. Ken also loved to travel and was an avid coin collector and Packers fan. He will be sadly missed by all.
Ken is survived by a son, Todd (Miranda) Beyer of La Crescent, Minn.; two daughters, Kristine Moon and Renee Beyer, both of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Nathan and Tanner Beyer, Brooke Petersen, Nicolette and Emily Moon and Caleb and Elicia Taube; and two sisters-in-law, Vi Beyer and Gail Beyer, both of La Crosse.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ricky; and two brothers, Alois and Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, La Crosse. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Entombment with military rites will be in Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the church. Caroline (Cookie Grandma) Langowski
Caroline Rosalia Langowski, 93, residing at Bethany-St. Joseph Health Care Center passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Bethany-St. Joseph, after a battle with dementia.
Caroline was born Jan. 28, 1915, in Winona, Minn., to John and Mary Blank. She was married to Victor Langowski, and they resided in Winona for many years. Caroline was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona. She was very interested in doing embroidery, playing bingo, baking cookies and traveling. Having fun was a great enjoyment of her life.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Jennifer) Langowski of Onalaska; a grandson, Mark (Francine) Langowski of Santa Maria, Calif.; a granddaughter, Heather Smith of Taos, N.M.; and four grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Maran, Saffron, Sparrow and Trempealeau. She is also survived by one brother, Edward (Joyce) Blank of Winona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Langowski; parents, John and Mary Blank; infant daughter, Carol M. Langowski; a son, Louis E. Langowski; brothers, John and Eugene; sisters, Josephine, Ann, Marian and Harriet; and her traveling partner, Ina Kaufmann.
Arrangements are being handled by Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Richard ‘Dick’ J. Weber Sr.
LANSING, Iowa — Richard “Dick” J. Weber Sr., 71, of Lansing died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Father Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in May’s Prairie Cemetery, rural Lansing. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing where there will be a 6:45 p.m. parish Scripture service.
Dick was born in Allamakee County, Iowa, on Jan. 6, 1937, to Christian and Odelia (Weipert) Weber. He attended May’s Prairie School (Iowa) and lived on May’s Prairie his entire life. Dick married Shelby “Jean” Alderman on June 28, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in De Soto. He and Shelby Jean farmed and raised their family on May’s Prairie. He enjoyed his family, farming, hunting and antique farm memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean of Lansing; five children, Randy (Karen) Weber of Lansing, Sally (Pat) O’Neill of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Rick Weber of Lansing, Chris (Danette) Weber of Dubuque, Iowa, and Melanie (Ross) Krambeer of Lansing; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six siblings, Lois (John) Crumbaugh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kathleen (Gerald) Garin of Cedar Rapids, Joyce (Paul) Murray of Isle, Minn., Phyllis (Fred) Hogan of Lansing, Janice (Alfred) Habighorst of Deerwood, Minn., and Sharon (David) German of Ames, Iowa.
Dick was preceded in death by five siblings, Lawrence, Robert, James, Keith, Theresa and Lucille Jangula.
David Julius Manske
David Julius Manske, 58, of Rice Lake, Wis., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at home. He was born Dec. 2, 1949, in Ona-laska to Julius and Dorothy (Roesler) Manske.
David graduated from Onalaska High School and the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in construction engineering management. He worked for Vonasek & Schieffer in the 70s and early 80s. He spent his career in plant engineering, employed by Jerome Foods and Paul’s Sheet Metal. Most recently, he worked for the Barron County Justice Center as a building engineer. David was also known for his volunteer activities, with Jaycees for many years, with Troop 8 Boy Scouts, and more recently, Rice Lake Curling Club and Hockey Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by one daughter, Alissa Manske of Denver; two sons, Kyle Manske of Broomfield, Colo., and Jared (Amy) Manske of Breckenridge, Colo.; his siblings, Jim Manske of Madison, Mary Manske of Charlotte, N.C., Steve Manske of Onalaska, Mike Manske of Onalaska, and LaVonne (Bill) Strong of Onalaska.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Jarocki Funeral Home in Rice Lake, with service at 6 p.m., followed by a meal at Rice Lake Curling Club.
