The McCain-Palin ticket would have you believe that Barack Obama intends to take money from “hard-working people” and give it to those “who don’t want to work.” This is a distortion that demonizes the poor and the vulnerable and sets us against each other.
A recent study by the World Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development found that the U.S now has the fourth largest economic inequality gap in the world, behind Mexico, Turkey and Portugal. Several large American cities were found to have economic class stratification comparable to those of Nairobi and Ivory Coast. This is shameful.
When we choose not to invest in children, families, neighborhoods, education, the environment and the general overall health of all our citizens, we pay more in the end, in money and in spiritual deadness. Was Jesus a socialist when he made the statement about a rich man, a camel and the eye of a needle?
In many countries, inequality gaps such as ours lead to violent revolutions. Fortunately for us, we can accomplish change from the Republican regime in the voting booth.
