But a few disappointed McCain supporters followed the example set by their candidate in his gracious and admirable concession speech: For the first time, we saw the McCain who charmed many of us in 2000.
And some of the supporters of the president-elect followed Mr. Obama’s example with an e-pluribus-unum approach.
Here are some of the comments our readers attached to a story Wednesday about Obama’s acceptance speech in Chicago:

More Americans will die from another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Illegal immigrants will have more money to live on and free health care while the middle-class American pays the bill. Hunters will find it extremely difficult or impossible to purchase a gun.”

This is our country, and no matter what you believe, Obama is our president. I support our new president and look forward now to hopefully Washington learning how to work together.”

The numbers speak for themselves, not only for the president-elect but for the House and Senate as well. ... Right-wing extremists can and will spew their hatred and fear, but the numbers clearly show that Americans did not fall for the propaganda and fear mongering that the right wing tried to put forth.”

No matter who won last night, that president has the toughest of battles to change America, a challenge that probably cannot be done in four years. We should all be uniting as Americans and press forward to make this country what it once was. In these critical times, there is really no room for Democrats, Republicans, etc. we all need to be Americans first!”
